If the Sleep option is missing from the Power Menu then this could be caused by the power settings, local group policy configuration, etc. in your computer. Based on the reports of users who experience the same problem, the issue occurred after they’ve updated or upgraded their Windows 10 computers.
As you know, the sleep mode is quite useful in certain cases and is utilized by most users. If you put your computer in sleep mode, it actually minimizes the power usage of your computer while at the same time keeps your current session running. So if sleep mode is suddenly missing, then that could be a problem but worry not for this post will give you possible fixes to resolve the issue. Make sure to follow each one of them carefully to achieve good results.
Option 1 – Check the Power settings
As mentioned, one of the reasons why the Sleep option is missing could be the power settings in your computer. To check this possibility, make sure that you’ve enabled the sleep mode in the Power options setting window. How? Refer to these steps:
First, go to the Start menu, and from there open Control Panel.
Next, set the View by Large icons and select the Power Options.
After that, click on the “Choose what the power buttons do” option on the left-hand side.
Then click on the “Change settings that are currently unavailable” option and make sure that Sleep is checked under the Shutdown settings.
Afterward, click on Save changes.
Option 2 – Modify the Local Group Policy
If the Power setting isn’t the cause of the problem, then you might want to check the Local Group Policy and modify it. There is a dedicated policy for showing the sleep option in the power menu and if this policy is disabled, then it’s no wonder why you don’t see the sleep option in the power menu. To change this policy, refer to the steps below.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Then type “gpedit.msc” in the field and hit Enter to open the Group Policy Editor.
Next, navigate to this path: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> File Explorer
Look for the “Show sleep in the power options menu” option from the right-hand side pane and double click on it.
Now change it to Enabled and click on the Apply and OK buttons to save the changes made and restart your computer.
Option 3 – Try to turn on Standby
Standby, also known as InstantGo, is a feature in Windows 8 and 10 that allows users to maintain network connectivity after a computer has been put into sleep mode. Thus, if this feature is disabled, it can cause the Sleep option to disappear from the power menu. To turn it on, follow these steps:
Tap the Win + R keys to open Run.
And type “Regedit” in the field and tap Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Next, navigate to this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPower
From this path, look for the “CsEnabled” key on the right-hand side of the pane and double-click on it.
Set its value to “1” and click OK to save the changes made.
Now reboot your PC.
Note: If you were not able to find the CsEnabled key, then this indicates that your computer does not support the Standby feature. And if that’s the case, proceed to the next given option below.
Option 4 – Try to install a Video Card driver
On the other hand, some users reported that the problem was caused by the video card driver. And if your computer lacks the video adapter driver, it can also cause the same problem. Windows 10 typically install the video card driver on its own, however, there are rare cases when it doesn’t which is why you have to do it yourself manually. All you have to do is go to your manufacturer’s website and look for the video card driver, download it and then install it. Once you’ve installed the video card driver, reboot your computer and check if it has fixed the problem.
USB storage devices are used to store small and even big files, depending on their sizes. Usually, the sizes of the USB vary from 2GB up to 16GB. And as time passes, they have advanced quite a bit and now it’s common to find USB sticks with a capacity of 32GB, 64GB, or even 128GB. And since they now have large capacities, USB storage devices are often used for storing backups of system data as well as creating an image. However, there are times when you might encounter an error message while trying to create a backup or image on your USB device. The error message states:
“The drive is not a valid backup location.”
One of the causes of this problem is that Windows was not able to recognize the USB drives as a valid backup location since USB storage devices weren’t previously large enough to store system images. To fix this error, here are some possible solutions that might help.

Now check if the Permission level on the System owner which should be your username is labeled as “Owner”.
Then try to back up your files again using your USB drive while keeping the sub-folder as the backup location.
Option 2 – Update the USB Controller Drivers
First, click the Start button and type “device manager”.
Then click on the “Device Manager” from the search results to open it.
From there, look for the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” option and then right-click on each one of the USB drivers and select the Update Driver from the menu.
Restart your PC and then click the “Search automatically for updated driver software” option.
You also have the option to update the motherboard and the USB driver from the manufacturer’s official website.
Option 3 – Run CHKDSK utility to check the drive for errors
When it comes to some issues concerning the hard drive or removable devices, there is a utility in Windows that might help which is called “chkdsk”. To use it, follow the steps below.
Tap the Win + S keys to open the Search box.
Then type “command prompt” in the field and from the search results that appear, right-click on Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”.
After opening an elevated command prompt, copy and paste the following command and hit Enter:
Note: In the command given above, “[/F]” will try to fix the system errors while “[/R]” will be the one to fix the bad sectors.
Now if you are prompted to run CHKDSK after your reboot your PC, just tap Y and reboot your PC.
If CHKDSK is not able to find any errors, tap the Win + E keys and navigate the access window. From there, right-click on the concerned drive and click on Properties.
After opening Properties, click on the tab Tools and then click on the “Check” button under the Error-checking section.
Wait until the process is completed and then restart your computer.
So, you have finished with work, game, movie, music, email, or whatever on your PC, you look at the clock, it is late, you decide to go to sleep or outside, you click on the power button and choose shutdown. Now when a PC is shut down you feel good and go with your business but the next time you power it up you get the same error like the computer never really shut down in the first place. You wonder why and reboot it, just in case and all of the sudden error is gone.
If something similar has happened to you or you had the feeling that after shutting down your computer has not really felt like shutting it down, do not seek professional help, everything is OK with you because when you click on shut down, your computer does not really shut down!
Truth is that Microsoft has changed how to shut down works and how rebooting works in Windows with an update but has not publicly said anything about it so some users may experience this feeling of not shutdown phenomenon and might even think there is something wrong with their PC.
Why this change?
A few years ago shutdown button and option in Windows were really shutting down OS, but things changed when Microsoft wanted to increase boot-up speed. Now when that decision was made shutdown option was changed. So, what was changed? Well in order to increase Windows booting time, the shutdown will now turn off power to PC components and it will look like everything is indeed shutdown but the Windows kernel will actually be saved to a hard drive with all settings and just awaken once the PC is turned back ON. This will result in all errors and other stuff being just still present same as they were once the system was instructed to be turned off.
Rebooting your PC will now clear kernel and file from the hard drive and you will get a clean system startup without any issues tied with the kernel itself.
Workaround
Now that we know why and what change has been made to Windows logical question is can we shut down our PC at all properly? Luckily for us, the answer is yes and we will not need any external application to do it, we can still do it inside Windows itself and it is quite quick and easy.
Bringing back the old shutdown
In order to bring the old shutdown functionality of your PC please follow the instructions but be aware that by doing this your PC will boot a little bit slower since it will have to load the kernel from scratch each time computer is turned ON.
First thing is to go to settings and go to System
Then once you are inside the system, navigate to the power and sleep and click on it to select it. Once you have it selected to all the way to the right and click on additional power settings.
When you click on advanced power settings you should be led to the control panel's power options. Inside this panel click on top left link where it says Choose what the power button does.
Inside options, you will need to untick the box next to Turn on fast startup (recommended), this option has been ticked ON by the Windows update and probably without notifying you. Option means exactly what was described, it will save kernel state on the hard drive for faster boot time but sadly it can cause some issues since it will never be reloaded from 0.
If you are unable to uncheck the box click on the text beside the shield icon that says: Change settings that are currently unavailable (you will have to be logged in as administrator).

Altho turning off fast startup and shutting down the PC completely will for sure extend your bootup time I still believe that it is the right choice since sometimes a lot of clutter and bad things accumulate over time inside the OS and can cause a vast variety of problems in a long run. So stay safe and shut down that PC as it used to be in the past.

If you got the FAULTY_HARDWARE_CORRUPTED_PAGE Blue Screen error on your Windows 10 computer then it is most likely caused by various factors. It is most likely that after you updated your Windows computer that your driver also needs a refresh. On the other hand, if you have just updated your device drivers then you need to roll back the drivers to their previous versions. Whichever applies to you, refer to the steps below.
Open the Devices Manager from the Win X Menu.
Then locate the device drivers and right-click on them to open the Properties.
After that, switch to the Driver tab and click on the Uninstall Device button.
Follow the screen option to completely uninstall it.
Finally, restart your computer. It will just reinstall the device drivers automatically.
Note: You can install a dedicated driver on your computer in case you have it or you could also look for it directly from the website of the manufacturer.
If you are not able to access the Windows 10 Advanced troubleshooting options within Windows then you’ve come to the right place as this post will guide you on how you can repair or boot the Windows 10 installation without losing data using the bootable installation USB or DVD media. To repair or boot Windows 10 using the installation media, you have to download the Windows ISO, create a bootable USB or DVD drive, boot from the media and select “Repair your computer” and then select Startup Repair under Advanced troubleshooting. To get started, follow the given steps below carefully.
Step 1: Frist, download the Windows ISO.
Although this is not necessarily needed, it’s still better if you download the Windows ISO first so make sure that you download the same ISO version as installed on your computer.
Step 2: Next, create a bootable USB or DVD drive.
Insert your USB drive into your PC.

After that, type in this command and tap Enter after – active

After you prepare the image for the operating system, save it to the root of your USB Storage device.
Step 3: After creating a bootable drive, boot from the media and select the “Repair your computer” option.
Once you boot from the USB drive, it will start the Windows 10 installation right away. So you must not keep on clicking Next as you will end up installing Windows. You need to look for the “Repair your computer” link on the first installation screen and click on it and then boot your computer into Advanced Recovery.
Step 4: Select Startup Repair under the Advanced options screen
Once you’re at the Advanced Recovery screen, select Advanced Options and select Troubleshoot.
After that, look for the Startup Repair and click on it and then follow the next on-screen instructions. This solution will help you fix issues that do not allow you to boot into your computer.
On the next screen, you will see the admin account with its name. Click on it and verify using the account password associated with the email.
After verification, it will start to diagnose your computer and automatically resolve any detected issues related to boot.
After the issue is fixed, your computer should reboot normally and you should now be able to use it. Note that your personal files are still intact since the process didn’t delete or wipe them out.

Reasons to upgrade to the new OS
First of all, let me say what is good in Windows 11 and provide reasons why you should upgrade your computer.
The new fancy look made for modern computers.
New Windows new look, Microsoft has tried their best to bring a new modern look to its flagship operating system and I must say that they have managed it. I could argue that it is a little bit late since Apple had this kind of look in years but hey, better late than never I guess.
Increased security
This point is very valid but it will play a role only if you have all system requirements including TPM 2.0. If that is the case new security features of OS are really well done and are perhaps one thing that might nudge some people in installing W11 on their system.
New settings app
The New and redesigned settings app inside Windows 11 is really great and it provides a great workflow and easy management of system settings. This is not some radical change but it will save time and make life much easier.
It is better suited to the newest hardware
Windows 11 was made with the newest hardware in mind and its performances on it are great so if you are punching the latest tech this reason is sufficient to make a switch, however, if you are still on an older system you will not gain much by switching.
Reasons to avoid Windows 11 for now
Almost just a visual update to Windows 10
Some features of Windows 11 are great but they are not plenty of them to justify a new number and new version of OS. Considering what we really got new under the hood Windows 11 could have been just a patch and update to Windows 10 since the architecture is the same.
Bugs
Each day there are new bugs reporting for Windows 11, most of them are at the moment unsolvable and are caused because hardware manufacturers' drivers and software overall is not W11 ready. This hinders the stability of some systems and introduces headaches to others.
Runs poorly on unsupported hardware
Strange behavior has been reported on some older systems, granted systems are not officially supported but the point is OS is simply not working at the top of its game on older hardware.
No updates on non supported systems
Officially stated if you install Windows 11 on non-supported hardware you will not get any security updated on in. This is a deal-breaker as far as I am concerned.
It is still under development
When Windows 11 was released, Android native apps were not working on it, it later came with an update, this is just one example but there are more features that were promised but are not delivered on release and constant updates are fixing these things. It is obvious that Windows 11 is still under active development and not the final product that was promised.
Microsoft’s edge pushing
And not just edge, some other things as well but most notably is edge pushing to borders they are risking lawsuit similar as they did in the past pushing and disabling any other browser except internet explorer.
Conclusion
Firstly I want to point that this is my personal opinion but going through facts and taking into account the current state of Windows 11, at this point, it is not worth making a switch. I am sure that in time it will become a system that will be worth upgrading to but until that time comes, my advice would be to stay with Windows 10.
If you suddenly encountered an error that says, “No Audio Output Device is installed” on your Windows 10 computer, worry not for this post will guide you on how exactly you can fix the problem. There are several possible reasons why this error pops up. It could be due to a recent Windows 10 update you’ve installed, or it could be due to a corrupted or outdated audio driver, and so on.
There are several potential solutions to this error. You can try running the built-in Audio Playing troubleshooter or update or uninstall the Audio driver. You could also try to update the Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Control driver, as well as contact support for your laptop or computer. Note: If updating the Audio driver didn’t work, you can go to the website of your PC manufacturer and look for the support section where you can download the drivers for your computer. You just need to take note of your PC’s correct model and model number so you can find the appropriate driver.
Option 3 – Try removing and reinstalling the sound card
If option 1 didn’t work, you can also try to remove and reinstall the sound card of your computer to fix the high-pitched sound coming from your computer’s speakers.
To get started, tap on the Windows key + R to pull up the Run box.
Next, type in “MSC” in the box to open the Device Manager.
After opening the Device Manager, go to the “Sound, video, and game controllers” option then right-click on the sound card.
Finally, click on Uninstall and tick the box with a label that says, “Delete the driver software for this device” and close the Device Manager.
Restart your computer and check if the problem’s fixed or not.
Note: After you restart your computer, the system should reinstall the speaker automatically. But if it does not reinstall, you can follow the aforementioned steps again to go to the Device Manager. From there, go back to “Sound, video, and Game Controllers” and right-click on the sound card. After that, enabling the sound card and restart your computer once more. That should fix the problem.
Option 4 – Try updating the Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Control driver
If the three options given above didn’t fix the error, you might want to try updating the Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Control driver. To do so, follow these steps:
Tap the Win + X keys and select the Device Manager option from the menu.
Next, scroll down and click on the System Devices option and select the “Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Control” option.
Then right-click on it and select the “Update driver” option.
After a couple of seconds, the wizard will look for an available driver and will automatically update it.
Restart your computer and see if the error is now fixed.
In case you didn’t know, the new Windows 10 v1903 has brought tons of new features around Windows 10 Updates. One of these features is the ability to automatically adjust the Active Hours based on your computer activity. This feature is really useful as it tells the operating system when to install the Windows Updates.
A lot of users use the Active Hours feature to ensure that the Windows Update won’t force them to restart their PCs to install the update. So if your computer is turned on, it won’t apply the update during the active hours you’ve specified. In addition, the active hours change for many users and they are not that strict. For instance, if you set the active hours between 10 am to 5 pm, Windows Update won’t be forcing you to restart your computer to install the updates at those times.
Note that Windows Update allows enabling an option using where it can monitor the active hours in your computer and change it. To configure this setting, here’s what you have to do:
Frist, go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
Next, take note of your current active hours and click on the “Change active hours” link.
Then toggle the option that says, “Automatically adjust active hours for this device based on activity”. This will change the active hours and if you match it with the previous one, it should be different.
As you can see on the image given above, the earlier active hours were between 8:00 to 17:00 and were changed to 11:00 to 19:00. If you have been using this feature for a while you’ll find how useful and handy it is especially when you’re using your computer and don’t want any notifications like the prompts for Windows Updates to bother you while working.
Microsoft has officially announced details about the newest upgrades to its office 365 suite moving forward along with its new OS release.
It seems that Microsoft has listened to its user base and feedback since Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are getting much-needed redesign taking into account many suggestions from the community.
The new office should feel more like an application suite guiding focus on the interconnection of applications themselves providing users with a much more natural experience of using them.
The new office features so far

“This Office visual refresh is based on feedback from customers who asked for a more natural and consistent experience within and between your applications, specifically on Windows. With this update, we deliver an intuitive, coherent, and familiar user interface, using the Fluent Design principles, across all your applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access, Project, Publisher, and Visio. We aligned this visual refresh with the design of Windows 11 to provide seamless experiences on your PC.”
It is always refreshing to hear when a company listens to its user base and actually does what is needed instead of trying to invent the wheel.
How to switch
Since beta is already rolling and if you have an active 365 subscription to office suite visual refresh will be automatically available to all Office insiders running beta channel builds. It can be turned on and off using the coming soon feature in the top right corner of the menu in any application.
Just click on the megaphone icon to open the coming soon pane and apply settings to all office apps.
Note that The Coming Soon feature is not available in Access, Project, Publisher, or Visio. If you turn on the visual refresh in any of the 4 apps mentioned above (Work Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote), it will also be available in these 4 apps.
Difference themselves
The Home tab menu still has a familiar look with a few tweaks. For example, accessing frequently used Word commands will be a lot easier. By navigating to Designer > Show Quick Access Toolbar, users can add a customizable shortcut ribbon to Word that houses conveniently placed options.
Also, the office will not match your Windows operating system color theme so if you have a dark theme enabled, the office will also have a dark color theme.
Color palettes are more neutral, corners are a bit softer but customizable ribbons are a win here for me.
Conclusion
There was not much said other than visual upgrades and small tweaks that were supposed to make your life easier but then again Windows 11 itself is in the same boat.
I am not sure if this is a great update offering just some visual tweaks and focus on workflow mechanics or just being plain lazy and trying to cash in visuals as a completely new product.
As you know, the Windows 10 operating system, as well as other Windows versions, comes with the Windows Firewall. In Windows 10, the firewall allows users to install and run a third-party firewall. This kind of firewall works independently to block any suspicious activity on your computer. However, recently, some users reported that they are getting a notification on the Startup saying,
“Windows Firewall and <Third party firewall name> Firewall are both turned off; tap or click to see available options”.
This particular error could be caused by a lot of factors but when you manually check the firewall, you’ll find that there really is nothing wrong with both the Windows Firewall and the third party firewall. So if both the Windows Firewall and third-party firewalls like McAfee, Comodo, and many others are both turned off in Windows 10, then you need to do several things to resolve the problem – you need to check the supporting services that are required and uninstall and then reinstall the third party firewall on your computer. For more instructions, refer to the options provided below.
Option 1 – Try enabling all the supporting services for the firewall
The first thing you can do to resolve the error with the firewall is to check all of its supporting services by following these steps:
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run utility and type “services.msc” in the field and then hit Enter to open the Windows Services Manager.
Next, look for the Windows Defender Firewall service among the given list of services.
Once you found it, make sure that its Startup Type is set to Automatic and that the status of the service is Running. So if it’s not running, just click on the Start button.
In addition, you also have to make sure that the following services’ status is set as follows:
Xbox Live Networking Service: Manual
Base Filtering Engine: Automatic
Once done, start the firewall again and check if the error is now fixed or not.
Option 2 – Try to uninstall and reinstall the third-party firewall
It is possible that the firewall error might be due to an error with the compatibility of the installation in Windows 10 and the third-party firewall. Thus, the next thing you can do is to uninstall the third-party firewall and then reinstall it again. Once you have uninstalled the third-party firewall, you can download its latest version from its official website and install it again. This should fix the error with the firewall.
