As more and more people get into insider preview of upcoming Windows 11 we will see more and more different takes and opinions on it.
Generally speaking, the first wave was quite positive when it was previewed but how time is passing more and more limitations and frustration comes to the surface.
Some of the limitation that is inside it, which have been confirmed by Microsoft itself includes features missing that we had in Windows 10 like moving the application to the taskbar in order to pin it, moving the file in the taskbar to open it in default application and some big annoyances like Windows opening widgets always in Edge no matter what is your default browser. Not being able to move the taskbar from the bottom is also one of many illogical things.
There is not really a point in these missing features since they were working fine in Windows 10 and many users liked them since they could customize Windows more to their liking, now with this new look at limitations it reminds me personally much of apple macOS and I will be honest, I am not a big fan of that kind of thinking.
If I wanted that kind of OS I would have gotten myself a MAC, not custom build PC, but hey, Linux is always a free alternative, and how Microsoft itself is pushing limitations and in my opinion bad design choices along with awful system requirements that might just be a case for a lot of users.
I am really not sure what is logic behind these moves and I am sure they have their reasons but this time it seems that their take on the new OS is not resonating well with the overall user population, well at least what I have heard so far. Things of course can still be changed and made for the better and I would rather see release postponed and issues addressed than getting more system hogging and limited new OS that at its current state looks like reskinned Windows 10 with limitations.
The Makecab.exe process that’s running on your Windows 10 computer is a program that compresses the Component-Based Servicing log or CBS log files and they can get really huge if they’re not compressed. As a result, it would utilize important space on your operating system although makecab.exe does not consume high CPU resources in doing so. However, there are times when it recreates thousands of instances of itself and could cause overconsumption of system resources which slows down your computer. So when the makecab.exe process causes high CPU usage in your system, this could mean that there is a failed Windows Update. In addition, the high CPU usage of the makecab.exe process could also mean that your computer is infected with a virus or malware. Whichever the case is, you can check out several possible solutions that are given in this post to resolve the problem.
Option 1 – Try to delete log file using File Explorer
The CBS log files could reach up to 20GB size and so if you delete them, it would help in saving space in your computer and since they’re not much of use, deleting them won’t negatively affect the system at all. To delete the CBS log files, all you have to do is open the File Explorer and then go to C:/Windows/Logs/CBS and from there, open the CBS log files and delete them all. Doing so should ease the load in the makecab.exe process since it no longer has to compress the CBS log files. As a result, the process would be more relaxed. After that, you can restart your computer and check if the problem’s now fixed.
Option 2 – Try deleting the log file via Command Prompt
You can also try to delete the log files using an elevated Command Prompt. Refer to these steps to do so:
Type “command prompt” in the Windows Search bar and then right-click on the related search result and select the “Run as administrator” option.
Next, type the following command and hit Enter to execute it:
del /f %windir%logscbs*.log
Restart your computer afterward once the command has been executed. This should end the high disk usage by makecab.exe, if not, proceed to the next given options below.
Option 3 – Uninstall any suspicious programs you’ve installed recently
If you have recently installed some programs on your Windows 10 computer, and since then you’ve experienced high CPU usage brought on by makecab.exe, then you might want to uninstall those programs.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box
Then type “appwiz.cpl” in the field and hit Enter to open the Programs and Features in Control Panel.
From there, look for the suspicious programs you’ve installed, select them and then click on Uninstall to remove them.
After that, restart your computer and try to install the latest version of the program again. It should work now. If not, proceed to the next available option below.
Option 4 – Try running Disk Cleanup
You might want to run the Disk Cleanup utility as it is a useful tool that could delete temporary and useless files on your computer.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box and then type “cleanmgr” in the field and hit Enter to open the Disk Cleanup window.
After that, select the drive you want to clean.
Now click OK to clean the disk and restart your computer.
Option 5 – Try to run System File Checker scan
System File Checker or SFC is a built-in command utility that helps in restoring corrupted files and missing files. It replaces bad and corrupted system files to good system files. To run the SFC command, follow the steps given below.
Tap Win + R to launch Run.
Type in cmd in the field and tap Enter.
After opening Command Prompt, type in sfc /scannow
The command will start a system scan which will take a few whiles before it finishes. Once it’s done, you could get the following results:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Restart your PC.
Option 6 – Try scanning your computer using Windows Defender
As mentioned, the high CPU usage of makecab.exe might be caused by some malware or virus in the system and so to eliminate it, you have to scan your computer using security programs like Windows Defender.
Tap the Win + I keys to open Update & Security.
Then click on the Windows Security option and open Windows Defender Security Center.
Next, click on Virus & threat protection > Run a new advanced scan.
Now make sure that Full Scan is selected from the menu and then click the Scan Now button to get started.
You can prevent starting of app installations files if they have not come from the MS store inside Windows 11.
This can make your PC more secure because all apps in the store will have to be digitally signed and overall it can provide you with more control over what will be installed.
Follow the guide below to find out how can you easily turn this feature ON.
Press ⊞ WINDOWS + I to open Windows settings
Select Apps and then choose Apps & Features
Click on Choose where to get apps to bring a drop-down menu
Select The Microsoft Store only (Recommended)
Close settings
Settings will apply changes immediately and you continue using Windows right away.
With these settings turned ON if you want to install a downloaded application or run the installer you will not be able to, and message The app you’re trying to install isn’t a Microsoft-verified app will show on your screen.
You can always reverse this setting by choosing Anywhere in settings instead of Microsoft store only.
What is Error 0x8024a11a or 0x8024a112 ? If you are trying to update your Windows 10 computer and just when you were done downloading the feature update and about to install it, you encounter an error message saying:
“We’re having trouble restarting to finish the install, Error 0x8024a11a, 0x8024a112, 0x80070005 or 0x80070032”
And so to fix this problem, this post will give you a couple of possible solutions. Refer to the options given below to get started.
Option 1 – Restart your computer many times
This is the first thing you can try since there are instances when the Windows Update process gets stuck for a minor thing and restarting the computer usually helps in resolving the issue. All you have to do is click the Restart now button. However, if it does not work, you can use the Power buttons from the Start Menu or WinX Menu. Aside from that, you can also use your power buttons such as Alt + Ctrl + Del to restart your computer. And during the boot process, it is recommended that you restart your computer in Safe Mode or even in a Clean Boot State. After that, you can restart your computer in normal mode. This will make sure that no third-party processes will be able to interfere with the Windows Update process. To put your PC in a Clean Boot State, here’s what you have to do:
Log onto your PC as an administrator.
Type in MSConfig in the Start Search to open the System Configuration utility.
From there, go to the General tab and click “Selective startup”.
Clear the “Load Startup items” check box and make sure that the “Load System Services” and “Use Original boot configuration” options are checked.
Next, click the Services tab and select the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box.
Click Disable all.
Click on Apply/OK and restart your PC. (This will put your PC into a Clean Boot State. And configure Windows to use the usual startup, just simply undo the changes.)
After that, try to install the Windows Updates or upgrade again.
Option 2 – Try running the Windows Module Installer
The Windows Module Installer is a built-in service in the Windows operating system that could help you resolve the Windows update error 0x8024a11a or 0x8024a112. You need to make sure that this service is Started and that its Startup type is set to Automatic – you can do this via Services Manager or by executing the command given below in an elevated Command Prompt.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Then type “command prompt” in the field and hit Enter to open Command Prompt.
And in the elevated Command Prompt type in the following command and hit Enter:
SC config trustedinstaller start=auto
After executing the command successfully, you should see the “[SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS” message on the Command Prompt window.
Option 3 – Run the DISM tool
You can also run the DISM Tool as it helps in repairing the Windows System Image as well as the Windows Component Store in Windows 10. Using this built-in tool, you have various options such as the “/ScanHealth”, “/CheckHealth”, and “/RestoreHealth” which could help in fixing the Windows update error 0x8024a11a or 0x8024a112.
Open the Command Prompt with admin privileges.
Then type in the following commands and make sure to hit Enter right after you type each one of them:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Do not close the window if the process takes a while as it will probably take a few minutes to finish.
Option 4 – Run the System File Checker
System File Checker or SFC is a built-in command utility that helps in restoring corrupted files as well as missing files. Running the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter could also help you resolve the Windows update error 0xca00a000. To run it, go to Settings and then select Troubleshoot from the options. From there, click on Windows Update and then click the “Run the troubleshooter” button. After that, follow the next on-screen instructions and you should be good to go.
Option 6 – Run Microsoft’s online troubleshooter
Running Microsoft’s online troubleshooter might also help you fix the Windows update error 0x8024a11a or 0x8024a112. This online troubleshooter is known to help in fixing Windows Update errors, it scans your computer for issues that might be causing the problem and then fixes them automatically.
As you know, Microsoft Office Word is a program that’s widely used all over the web and it’s because it’s the best program there is when it comes to editing and processing words. However, even when it is the best there is, it is not without its faults and so on as it can still encounter some errors every now and then. One of these errors is the Template_fields errors. When you encounter such an error, you will see a pop-up window. This strange error randomly appears on documents but you need not worry as this post will provide you with possible solutions to resolve the problem. But before you proceed with these solutions, you have to create a backup for all your Word documents to Microsoft OneDrive preferably.
To fix the problem, you can try to disable the add-ins or try to start Word in Safe Mode or repair Office. For more details, refer to the options given below.
Option 1 – Disable the Add-ins
Although add-ins enhance Microsoft Word, there are times when they can also cause problems that end up breaking Microsoft Word instead of improving it which is why you have to disable them. Refer to the following steps to do so:
Open Microsoft Word and then click on File.
After that, select Options from the menu and then click on Add-ins.
From there, you’ll see Manage: Com Add-ins as well as a button that says Go.
Now click on the Go button and wait for a couple of seconds for a new window to appear.
In the newly opened window, uncheck all the Add-ins and click on OK.
Restart Microsoft Word and check if the “Template_fields” error is now fixed or not.
Option 2 – Try starting Word in Safe Mode
You might also want to try rebooting Microsoft Office in Safe Mode as it is one of your best shots in finding out whether the problem is internal or external. However, if the problem does not appear after you reboot Microsoft Word in Safe Mode, then there is a possibility that the problem is with Microsoft Office itself. On the other hand, if the problem persists, then it could be a deeper issue.
First, start Microsoft Word in Safe Mode.
Next, tap and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and open the Word document.
After that, you should see a dialog box. Click on Yes and see if Microsoft Word opens in Safe Mode.
Alternatively, you can open the search box and then type “winword.exe /safe” and hit Enter.
Option 3 – Try repairing Microsoft Office
If the first two options didn’t work, then you might want to try repairing Microsoft Office without getting rid of it. In most cases, this usually works in fixing any problems and returns the program back to its default state. To repair Microsoft Office, follow the steps below.
Right-click on the Start Menu button and select Apps and Features.
Next, scroll until you see the Microsoft Office program you want to repair and then select the Modify option.
After that, follow the options to repair Microsoft Office and then restart your PC and see if the “Template_fields” error is no longer present.
Stable Diffusion is a machine learning model developed by Stability AI to generate digital images from natural language descriptions. The model can be used for different tasks like generating image-to-image translations guided by text prompts and upscaling images.
Unlike competing models like DALL-E, Stable Diffusion is open source and does not artificially limit the images it produces. Stable diffusion was trained on a subset of the LAION-Aesthetics V2 data set. It can run on most consumer hardware equipped with a modest GPU and was hailed by PC World as "the next killer app for your PC".
Since Stable Diffusion is run locally and not in the cloud, as mentioned there is no limit to the number of images that you can produce but in order to use it you will have to get down a little dirty with setting your PC environment for it since it is not really an application, it is a command line text based descriptor that will use python to generate your images, so there is no install nor GUI.
In this guide, we will show you how to both install and run Stable Diffusion on your local PC so you can start producing some cool images all by yourself.
Hardware and software requirements
Make no mistake, Stable Diffusion will not run on a potato PC, in order to harvest the power of AI-generated imagery this is what you will need:
A GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM
10GB of hard disk space
Python and libraries (Miniconda3 installer will install everything you need)
The Stable Diffusion files
Git
Any OS (Windows, Linux, macOS)
Installing components
For this tutorial, we are covering the installation and running of Stable Diffusion on Windows PC. The steps presented here are presented in a way that installation can be performed on any operating system but precise instructions will be for Windows OS.
GIT
The first thing to do is to install GIT. It is a tool that will let you easily maintain and install repos from the internet. to install it go to: https://git-scm.com/ and click on download. Follow the instructions for your version of the operating system. If you are a developer you are familiar with GIT and if you already have it installed you can skip this step.
One thing that is important when installing GIT locally is to select to use it via the command line (the second option that says "Git from the command line and also from 3rd-party software").
Miniconda3
Now when we have GIT installed, next thing is to use Miniconda3 to install python and all required libraries that are needed. Get the installer at: https://docs.conda.io/en/latest/miniconda.html
Miniconda3 is basically an easy installer so you do not have to install tons of stuff manually from different websites and sources, it is nicely packaged in the installer that will take care of everything.
Stable Diffusion
After the previous two steps, we are ready now to actually install Stable Diffusion. Go to https://huggingface.co/CompVis/stable-diffusion#model-access and install the latest library (as of the writing of this article currently it is stable-diffusion-v1-4-original, the last one on the right), the library is almost 5GB in size so be prepared for big download.
Once downloaded click on the Windows start button and type in Miniconda3 and click on open. Create a folder and name it how you want on a drive of your choice. For this example, we will install it all in disk C under folder AI_art, follow the instructions below but use your own names and destination instead. Do not close Minicoda3 after typing commands!!!
cd c:/
mkdir AI_art
cd AI_art
Extract GitHub files that you have downloaded into your new folder and get back to Minicoda3 and type the next commands:
Let the whole process finish, some files are large and it might take a while. After the whole process is finished and completed, copy the checkpoint file that you have downloaded into: C:\AI_art\stable-diffusion-main\models\ldm\stable-diffusion-v1
After the file is copied rename it to model.ckpt and you are finished.
Running Stable Diffusion
The created environment is needed in order to actually use Stable Diffusion to create images. Each time you want to use it you will have to run it, so go into Miniconda3, and inside it type:
conda activate ldm
cd C:\AI_art\stable-diffusion-main
after we are inside the folder call the script with the parameters:
python scripts/txt2img.py --prompt "TXT DESCRIPTION OF IMAGE THAT YOU WANT TO CREATE" --plms --n_iter 5 --n_samples 1
and that's it, your image is created and it is located in C:\AI_art\stable-diffusion-main\outputs\txt2img-samples\samples

If this error message is not resolved, it could give birth to other error messages such as error code 0x80070652.
Further Information and Manual Repair
To fix this particular error code affecting Windows 10 devices, you will need to employ at least one manual repair method mentioned within this article. Manual repair methods offer effective solutions as they seek to address the root causes related to Windows error codes. When the manual repair methods are implemented correctly, users are usually able to quickly overcome issues that cause Windows error codes and can thereafter access all the benefits Windows has to offer to its users.
Note, however, that in a few cases where technical skills are required, the need for a Windows repair technician may present itself. Method One: Temporarily Disable or Uninstall Third-party Security Software
Some third-party security programs or antivirus software may interfere with the installation process when Windows users attempt to upgrade to Windows 10. To verify if this is the issue causing error code 0xC1900101-0x20017 on your device, temporarily uninstall or disable these applications. You may easily do so by checking the settings of these programs or visiting Settings within the Windows Start Menu.
Once you have disabled these programs on your device, reboot your machine and attempt to update to Windows 10. However, in the case where error code 0xC1900101-0x20017 in Windows 10 reoccurs during the installation process, you will need to resort to another manual repair method listed below.
Method Two: Disable Firewall Software
Like method one, this manual repair method can be effective in combating issues related to 0xC1900101-0x20017. This is of course, dependent on whether or not the error code is due to an incompatible security program.
Temporarily disable your firewall by adjusting its settings. Once this step is complete, reboot your machine and attempt to install the latest version of Windows 10. If you are able to complete the process, this means the problem was due to an issue with your firewall. You can then enable the firewall you previously disabled or download another program as its replacement.
If the error code reoccurs, however, consider implementing the next manual repair method on this list.
Method Three: Use Command Prompt to Check for Damaged System Files
Command Prompt can be very effective in helping regular as well as technically skilled users repair issues with their PC. In the case of error code 0xC1900101-0x20017 in Windows 10, access Command Prompt using the following instructions.
Step one: Right-click Start Menu

Method Four: Download an Automated Tool
If you wish to always have at your disposal a utility tool to fix these Windows 10 and other related issues when they do arise, download and install a powerful automated tool.
If you suddenly see a system icon or an application icon that has a blue and yellow shield or icon overlay at the corner, this indicates that the application has to run with admin privileges and each time you run these kinds of applications, a UAC or User Account Control prompt will appear to confirm if you really want to run the application. Although this kind of behavior is for security reasons, it can get quite annoying especially if you use the application on a daily basis. To make it convenient for you, this post will walk you through how you can remove the blue and yellow shield icon from an application on your Windows 10 computer.
The User Account Control or UAC setting is the one that ensures no program can run with administrative privileges unless it is allowed by the user. This stops any program that could be potentially harmful to the computer from making any changes which are why keeping this setting to its default state is for the best and making any changes in its setting is not recommended unless it is really needed.
So if you really have to remove the icon overlay in an application, there are several ways you can do that. You can try reinstalling the program and set Compatibility or change the UAC level. For more information, refer to every option given below.
Option 1 – Try to reinstall the application and set Compatibility
As you know, the application icons where you can see the shields are shortcuts mostly and they signify that the User Account Control will appear each time you launch the app. Thus, if you have an app that you use regularly and you’re certain that the app can be trusted, you can try to reinstall the app and set its compatibility by following these steps:
You need to uninstall the app first and then install its latest version. You must not run or open the app after you reinstall it, not until you’ve completed the steps.
Next, you have to right-click on the shortcut icon of the app, and from the menu, select Properties.
Afterward, go to the Compatibility tab and look for the checkbox labeled “Run this program as an administrator” and uncheck it.
Now click on the Apply and OK buttons to save the changes made. This should remove the shield icon from the app.
Option 2 – Try changing the UAC level
Tap the Win + Q to open the search bar and type UAC to see the User Account Control setting.
From the UAC setting, lower the UAC level by selecting the settings that say, “Notify only when apps try to make changes to my computer”.
After selecting that option, you shouldn’t be getting any warning now when you run the app with the shield icon. But keep in mind that this is not a temporary setting which can be risky especially if the app can’t be trusted.
Many Windows 10 users often change the IP addresses of their computers’ network adapter in order to connect to the internet or network they belong to in times when there is no automatic connection for their computers. In most cases, access to modifying this setting is restricted for some odd reason even if you are an administrator. So if you are one of the users whose Windows 10 VPN IPv4 Properties are not working, this post can help you remedy that so that you can open and edit the IPv4 Properties on your Windows 10 PC.
The common way to change IP settings is by going to Settings > Network and then to Internet > Change adapter options > Select Network adapter > right click and open Properties. From there, you can select TCP/IP 4 and modify it. If you aren’t able to do this, refer to the instructions laid out below to troubleshoot the problem in accessing the IPv4 Properties.
Option 1 – Try using PowerShell to manually set the IPv4 properties
As you are not able to set it using the interface, you can do so using PowerShell instead. Note that this option will only work for you if you run PowerShell with administrator privileges.
After opening PowerShell, according to many users, you have to run the this command – set-DnsClientServerAddress -InterfaceAlias “Ethernet” -ServerAddresses xxx.xx.xxx.xxx,x.x.x.x,xxx.xx.xxx.xxx,x.x.x.x
Usually, Ethernet is the name of your network adapter which is set by default. If you want to see the actual name of your network adapter, you can just type this command and tap Enter after doing so – Get-NetAdapter -physical | where status -eq 'up'
After entering the given command, you will see a list of active Ethernet adapter in your computer as you can see on the image above. Note that the 4 sets of X like the one on the image below should match with the sequence:
Option 2 – Try editing the rasphone.pbk files
The rasphone.pbk files stores property for the connections and since you are not able to access the IPv4 properties, it is most likely that it has been disabled here. The good thing is that you can open these files and edit them using Notepad. Refer to the steps below to do so.
Open the Windows Explorer and then enable the show hidden files option.
After that, look for the files at this location – C:Users <username>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftNetworkConnectionsPbk_hiddenPbkrasphone.pbk
Then right-click on it and select the “Open with” option and choose the Notepad app.
After opening the file, look for “IpPrioritizeRemote” from the long list.
Once you found it, set its value from “1” to “0”.
After that, look for “IPInterfaceMetric” and set its value to “1” and tap Ctrl + S to save the changes you’ve made, and then exit and try accessing the IPv4 properties again. It should work, but if you’re still unable to access it, try the next option below.
Option 3 – Enable the Split Tunneling if you use VPN
All data goes back and forth when you are using a VPN service on your computer. And since you are using VPN, it could be that it disables the IPv4 interface. If that’s the case, you need to stay connected with both the local network and VPN and to do so, you have to enable Split Tunneling. How? Follow these steps:
Open PowerShell with administrator privileges.
Next, type in “Get-VpnConnection” and tap Enter. After doing so, it will give you the exact name of your VPN.
After that, type in “Set-VpnConnection -Name “yourVPNName” -SplitTunneling $True” and tap Enter. Once you enter the command, it will free your IPv5 settings so that you can change it to connect with your local network if you prefer it to.

You can fix this error using several ways. You can try changing the Power Options, update or roll back the USB drivers, turn off Fast Startup, or run the USB troubleshooter. Follow the options given below for more details.
Option 1 – Try to change the Power Options
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run utility.
Then type “powercfg.cpl” and tap Enter to open the Power Options window.
Next, go to your selected power plan and click the “Change plan settings” option to open a new page.
From there, click on the “Change advanced power settings” option. This will open a new window where you can see various power consumption options.
Now look for the USB Settings option and expand it.
Then set the USB selective suspend setting to “Disabled” for both scenarios: On Battery and Plugged in.
After that, click on OK and restart your computer to apply the changes made.
Option 2 – Update or reinstall the Universal Serial Bus Controller driver
Since it could be a driver issue, you can try to update or reinstall the Universal Serial Bus Controller drivers using the Device Manager. Refer to the following steps:
First, click the Start button and type “device manager”.
Then click on the “Device Manager” from the search results to open it.
From there, look for the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” option and then right-click on each one of the USB drivers and select the Update Driver from the menu.
Note: If it is a regular USB drive, then it will be listed as a USB Mass Storage Device but if you have a USB 3.0 device, then look for a USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller.
Restart your PC and then click the “Search automatically for updated driver software” option.
Note: If updating the USB Controller drivers didn’t work, you can try to reinstall them instead.
Option 3 – Try turning off Fast Startup
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box and type in “control” to open the Control Panel.
Next, click on the Hardware and Sound section and click on Power Options.
Afterwards, select the “Choose what the power buttons do” option from the left side menu pane.
Now click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck the entry that says, “Turn on fast startup (Recommended).
Then click on Save Changes and restart your computer and see if it has fixed the problem or not.
Option 4 – Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooters
The first thing you need to do is click on Start and then on the gear-like icon to pull up the window for Settings.
After opening Settings, look for the Update and Security option and select it.
From there, go to the Troubleshoot option located on the left-hand side of the list.
Next, select Hardware and Devices from the list and open the Troubleshooter and run it. Once it is doing its job, wait for it to complete the process and then restart the system.
After the system restarts, check if the problem’s now fixed. If not, refer to the next option given below.
