Microsoft is trying to make Windows into a personalized OS, more and more features and parts can be customized to user liking. From larger things to smaller ones nowadays you can almost personalize every detail of Windows itself. In this article, we will tackle how to bring back the names of running applications on the taskbar.
Placing names beside icons on the taskbar is a pretty simple and straightforward task easily done.
First, right-click the Taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
In Taskbar settings, click the menu labeled Combine taskbar buttons.
Select Never.
That's it, now all of your running applications have a name beside them.
If you change your mind, you can always undo it by selecting Always hide labels in the Combine taskbar buttons menu.
When you connect your TV via HDMI cable Windows will recognize it as another monitor and will control the display settings for your HDMI connection. In most cases using it as the extended desktop will work fine, issues will arise when you play video on it. Video playing applications can override Windows settings which can lead to strange results on the screen. Here in this guide, we will tackle with reasons and solutions to this particular issue. Solutions provided are not meant to be followed in the way they are presented but as a silent rule, they go from most common one to most rare so it is advisable to try them in the order presented.
FIXING RESOLUTION ISSUES
The first thing when experiencing resolution issues on your TV connected to a PC is to check TV settings. There is very likely a chance that you will need to manually adjust picture settings on the TV itself using TV controls.
On older models of TV, there is an overscan option which can lead to different resolutions and screen sizes. Overscan is a technology that was used in order to help content creators to deliver consistent pictures on different screen sizes and aspect ratios but how technology has advanced and everything including aspect ratio was standardized overscan itself has become a relic of the past. If you are unable to access or see edges of your desktop on the TV screen it is very likely that overscan is the issue. In order to fix this be sure to select HDTV's aspect ratio to fit the screen setting in the picture setting.
Sadly finding this option on your TV will be different from manufacturer to manufacturer and even from model to model of the same manufacturer so we can not cover all models but in most cases option is located under picture settings or advanced options. Sometimes you will face even different overscan settings instead of classic ft to screen options, in this case, experiment with the setting until you find one which will work. If you have it, find settings in the user manual of your TV.
Luckily you have managed to find the proper option on your TV set and have chosen the right aspect ratio for display. If everything works ok there is no need for the next step but if you experience a different resolution than desired on your TV follow this next guide on how to change the resolution of the TV on your PC.
Press the ⊞ Windows and type Change Display Settings. Click on the top result.
Once the Display Settings App opens, you’ll see two screens (or more if you’ve got multiple HDMI outputs connected). Make sure you select the right display for the HDMI TV before making any changes. You can do this by clicking on Identify.
You’ll see the number from the screenshot above displayed on the monitors for a brief period. Depending on which screen is set to your primary display, make sure you change the settings for the HDMI monitor.
Select the HDMI monitor from the available displays.
Scroll down until you see the current resolution settings for your HDMI monitor.
You can change the resolution settings and test different values that match your HDMI TV’s configuration.
Once you change the setting, Windows will apply the new resolution for a limited time and revert if you don’t accept the new setting.
Once you’ve found the best resolution for your TV, select Keep Changes to keep the new resolution.
You are all set now, make sure that you have the latest drivers on your system and enjoy using your TV as a second monitor.
A command is not recognized Error, what it is? If you are constantly using programs like CMD or DISM directly from the Run prompt, you might have wondered how they launched instantly and how is it that the Windows operating system is able to find them right away. For instance, when you create a shortcut of a program, the shortcut knows where exactly the program is located and launches it quickly.
The Windows operating system keeps a list of paths where the most common system programs are located so when you use the Run prompt, it opens easily. The list kept by Windows is called the Windows Environment Variables. If something goes wrong with this list, the programs won’t work. So in this guide, you will be guided on how you can troubleshoot the problem where any command you use is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file.
Before you start troubleshooting the problem, you need to make sure that the program you are trying to run really exists. In fact, this can also happen to the Run program which is pulled up using the Win + R shortcut. To check, go to C:\Windows\System32 and there, check if the program exists or not or you can also try searching for the EXE in the System 32 folder. After making sure that the program exists, refer to the instructions given below.
Modify the Windows Environment Variables:
Step 1: Tap the Win + X keys and then select System. After that, it will open the section where you can see all the properties on your computer.
Step 2: Next, select the Advanced system setting located on the left pane and click on the Environment Variables.
Step 3: After that, locate Path under the System Variables and select EDIT.
Step 4: Before you edit, you need to copy the entire string and paste it into the Notepad app so that in case something went wrong, you can paste it back.
Step 5: Next, look for the directory path, “C:\Windows\System32”. If you can’t find it, try adding a semi-colon at the end.
Step 6: Afterwards, click OK to save the changes made and then exit.
Step 7: Now restart your computer as all the paths are picked up when your computer restarts.
Note: Now all you have to do is to try executing the programs once again – the ones where you got the error, “ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file” every time you open them and then see if you can now open these programs or not.

Press ⊞ WINDOWS to open the start menu and click on the settings
On settings, screen click on system
When the system dialog opens go to Power & Sleep and on the right side change all values to never.
Please note that after each update Windows tend to reset these settings so you will sadly have to return to this after each major update.

Update Windows
Glitches come in various forms and sometimes they are introduced in updates, check to see if it is available Windows update and if it, download and install it, there is a very high chance that the next update will bring fixes for known glitches.
Disable antivirus
A good antivirus is an essential piece of software for any PC, however, sometimes it can interfere with the basic operations of windows itself. Disable it completely to see if copying and pasting will start to work, if this is a case, see can you somehow turn options off in antivirus or switch to another one.
Run Check disc
Corrupted applications and system files can cause issues with Windows functioning, the easiest way to solve this issue is to run build-in Windows Check disk utility and let it scan and fix potential issues.
Run SFC
If the check disk failed to fix the issue, run command prompt as administrator and type in sfc /scannow, file checker will go through all files and fix if it finds anything including corrupted system files. Reboot your system after the operation completes. Please note that an SFC scan can take a long time sometimes, do not interrupt the scanning process and leave it to finish.
Restart rdpclip process
Restarting rdpclip.exe can solve the issue. Open task manager and under process find rdpclip.exe, right-click on it and end it, then go to windows/system32 and search for rdpclip.exe and double click it. Please note that you will be able to find this process only if you are on a remote PC machine, on a local user machine rdpclip is not running.
Rollback to the previous system restore point
If this particular issue was introduced in the latest update and previous solutions have not worked, roll back to the restore point where everything was working as it should.
Stop virtualization
if you are using virtual software there is a chance that the shared clipboard feature is interfering with Windows, turn the Virtual machine off and try copy & paste again.
There are a lot of home users that often get a computer that comes installed with the Windows 10 Home. And since Windows 10 Pro offers more features and utilities compared to Windows 10 Home, a lot of users also prefer to upgrade their Windows 10 Home computers to Windows 10 Pro. However, while doing so, a number of users reported that they encountered error 0xc03f6506 and they were not able to proceed with the upgrade.
If you are one of these users, when you encounter error 0xc03f6506, you will see the following error message on your screen:
“The last product key you entered can’t be used on this copy of Windows (0xc03f6506).”
This particular error tends to occur when you go on to activate Windows 10 although it can also appear during the upgrade process. In such cases, you will see the following error message:
“Unable to upgrade your edition, We can’t upgrade your edition of Windows. Try upgrading your edition of Windows again. (0xc03f6506).”
To fix the Activation Error Code 0xc03f6506 in Windows 10, use the options provided below as references but before you proceed, make sure that you create a System Restore point first.
Option 1 – Try to use the Registry Editor
If you have already upgraded from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro and you’re having trouble with its Activation, then you might want to apply some registry tweaks to fix the problem. How? Refer to these steps:
Tap the Win + R key combination to open the Run dialog box.
Then type “Regedit” in the field and click OK or tap Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Next, navigate to this registry key: ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion
From there, look for a DWORD named “EditionID” and once you found it, double click on it and change its Value data to Windows 10 Professional.
After that, look for another DWORD named “ProductName” and double click on it to change its Value data to Windows 10 Professional.
Once you’re done, restart your computer to apply the changes made successfully.
Option 2 – Try to use Command Prompt
If the registry tweaks you applied didn’t fix the Activation error, then you can try using Command Prompt instead. Note that you can use this option in both scenarios pointed out above.
First, you have to insert a bootable drive of the Windows10 installer.
Next, tap the Win + X keys and select Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
After opening Command Prompt as admin, navigate to the root location of the bootable drive inside the Command Prompt command line.
Once you’re already there, type the following command and tap Enter:
setup.exe /auto upgrade /pkey <YOUR WINDOWS 10 PRO EDITION PRODUCT KEY>
After entering the command, check if it was able to fix the Windows Upgrade or Activation error 0xc03f6506. If not, refer to the next given option below.
Option 3 – Try to disable the Network Adapter
Just like the second option, you can also use this option for both the given scenarios above.
Tap the Win + X keys and select Network Connections from the menu.
This will open the settings for your network and on the left side panel, click on the “Change adapter settings” link. This will open Control Panel.
From there, click on the network your computer is connected to, and then right-click on the Network Adapter that you are using and select Disable.
After disabling the Network Adapter, try to switch to the edition of your copy of Windows 10 again and see if the problem is now fixed and don’t forget to double click on the disabled Network Adapter to get back on the Network.

A PC that turns on by itself every so often can get quite annoying. Many users have faced this problem countless times. There are lots of possible reasons why your Windows 10 PC turns on by itself, wakes up from sleep, standby, or even when it’s shut down.
To find out what exactly woke your computer, simply open Command Prompt as admin and type the following command:
powercfg –lastwake
Once you enter the command given above, it will show you the last device that woke your PC up. After that, you need to type in the next command:
powercfg –devicequery wake_armed
After entering the command, it will show you a list of all the devices that could wake your PC up. The goal in running these commands is to understand the reason what’s really causing your PC to turn on and see the reason is on the hardware level or not. Here are a couple of options you can try if your Windows 10 PC turns on by itself.
Option 1 – Try disabling Fast Startup
As you know, Windows 10 comes with a mode called Fast Startup which does not turn off the computer in the usual manner. This mode keeps your computer in a mixed state so that when you turn it on again, it will be a lot faster. However, as useful as this feature appear to be, some security experts find this an issue, for numerous reasons – for one, it can turn on your Windows 10 PC by itself. Thus, you need to disable this feature to fix the problem.
Option 2 – You need to stop the Task Scheduler from waking up your computer
There are times when the issue has something more to do with the software than hardware. It could be that you are using a Scheduled Task to get some work done on your computer at a particular time of the day or many times a day. That’s why if you really are using Task Scheduler, you need to change the Power settings of Windows to make sure that it ignores those tasks rather than deleting them instead when your computer is either on Hybrid or Standby mode.
Open the Power Options and then click on “Change Plan Settings”.
After that, make sure to choose the correct power plan and then select the “Change advanced power settings” option.
Next, look for the Sleep tree and expand it to view the “Allow Wake Timers” option and then disable it. Disabling this option will make sure that none of the program that could wake your PC up when it’s either on shutdown or sleep mode. However, this only applies to laptops.
Option 3 – Try to disable Automatic Restart
There are instances when the computer crashes and the system restarts itself. This is actually by design – when your computer has been left on standby, the computer will restart and if the program repeats, it will keep on waking your PC up.
In the Search bar, type in “system”.
Once it appears from the search results, click on it.
Next, select Advanced system settings on the left side and then go to the Advanced tab.
From there, click on Settings under Startup and Recovery.
Then unmark “Automatically Restart” and click on OK.
Option 4 – Adjust the Power Management option of both the Keyboard and Mouse
As you know, two of the culprits in waking your PC up are the keyboard and the mouse. If they’re slightly moved or hit, your PC turns on. To prevent these two from waking your computer up, you need to make some adjustments to their power management option since they have one. You can disable this option to ensure that they won’t wake your PC up unless you really want it to.
Tap the Win + X keys and then tap M to open the Device Manager and list all the hardware on your computer. From there, select your keyboard or mouse.
Next, right-click and then go to Properties and go to the Power Management tab.
In this tab, uncheck the “Allow this device to wake the computer” box.
Note: Aside from the keyboard and mouse, if you are also using any gaming rig to play games on your computer, then you might have to disable their power options as well as they could also wake your computer. Just make sure that either the keyboard or the mouse has the ability to wake your computer up at the very least as it can be quite inconvenient to tap the Power button every time you want to turn on your computer.
Option 5 – Modify Wake On Lan
The Wake On Lan feature can bring back your computer online if it is connected to a network. This feature is useful especially when a computer wants to communicate or to send data or files to a network computer which should come online only when it’s requested. Wake On Lan is built into the hardware, i.e. network adapter so it is one of the possible reasons why your PC turns on by itself.
Tap the Win + x keys then hit M to open the Device Manager and then under the Network adapters, look for the one that was listed above. Take note that you must not change anything with the ones that are listed as Miniport.
Next, right-click and select Properties and then go to Power management and from there, uncheck the “Allow this device to wake up the computer” option. This will ensure that no PC on the network can ever wake your computer up.
Option 6 – Prevent any scheduled Windows Update and Automatic maintenance
It is also possible that the Windows Update has restarted your PC to complete the update. This depends on your active hours or a predefined schedule. AS you know Windows has a built-in Automatic Maintenance mode which wakes the computer up at the scheduled time and performs the system update. This could be one of the possible reasons why your computer turns on by itself. so to prevent any scheduled updates and maintenance, you can simply change the time for Automatic maintenance. How? Follow these steps:
Open Settings then go to Windows Update and Security >Windows Update and select Active Hours.
After that, type in “Automatic maintenance” in the search bar to change the time for Automatic maintenance.
From there, you can adjust the timing or just uncheck the “Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer at the scheduled time” box.
The quickest and easiest way to log into your computer is when you use the PIN feature in Windows 10. Even though it is a bit slower compared to biometric logins such as Fingerprint and Iris scanning that comes under Windows Hello, the PIN feature is definitely less complicated. However, just like any other module of the software, it is also prone to some errors. In this post, you will be guided in fixing several PIN errors such as 0xd00000e5, 0x8007139f, and 0x8009003. These errors could be caused at different points in time like when you change or create a PIN or when you log into your computer.
To fix the 0xd00000e5, 0x8007139f and 0x8009003 PIN errors, there are various solutions you can try. You may empty the contents of the NGC folder or remove and change the PIN or the password. You could also use the Group Policy Editor or reset the ACLs in the NGC folder as well as run built-in tools like System File Checker and the DISM tool.
Option 1 – Take ownership of the NGC folder and delete its contents
Boot your computer first into Safe Mode.
Next, you need to take ownership of the Ngc folder first and you can do that using Command Prompt.
Type “command prompt” in the Windows Search bar and then right-click on the relevant search result and select “Run as administrator”.
After that, if a User Account Control or UAC prompt appears, just click on Yes to proceed.
Next, type and enter this command: TAKEOWN /F C:WindowsServiceProfilesLocalServiceAppDataLocalMicrosoftNgc
Note that the <path> is the location of the folder or file in File Explorer.
Now type and enter this second command: ICACLS C:WindowsServiceProfilesLocalServiceAppDataLocalMicrosoftNgc /grant administrators:F
Finally, once the command has been executed, restart your computer.
Once your computer has restarted, delete all the contents in the Ngc folder and check if the error is now fixed.
Option 2 – Try to remove and change the PIN or password
The 0xd00000e5, 0x8007139f, and 0x8009003 PIN errors could be caused by some conflicting issues with the PIN or password you have set for the User Account of your computer. Thus, you have to remove or change the PIN or password to fix these PIN errors.
Remove the PIN by going to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
From there, go to the PIN section and click on the Remove button.
You will be asked to verify your account to proceed in removing the PIN, enter your credentials.
Restart your computer and then set up a new PIN.
Once you’re done, restart your computer and check if the error is gone now.
Option 3 – Try to use the Group Policy Editor
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run utility and type “gpedit.msc” in the field and tap Enter to open the Group Policy Editor.
Next, navigate to this policy setting: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon
After that, double click on the “Turn on convenience PIN Sign-in” option located on the right-side panel.
Then set its radio button to Enabled. You will see the following description when you do so:
“This policy setting allows you to control whether a domain user can sign in using a convenience PIN. If you enable this policy setting, a domain user can set up and sign in with a convenience PIN. If you disable or don’t configure this policy setting, a domain user can’t set up and use a convenience PIN. Note: The user’s domain password will be cached in the system vault when using this feature. To configure Windows Hello for Business, use the Administrative Template policies under Windows Hello for Business.”
After setting the radio button to Enabled, it will turn on the Logins in your computer using the PIN.
Close the Group Policy Editor and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Option 4 – Try to reset the ACLs in the Ngc folder
Type “command prompt” in the Windows Search bar and then right-click on the relevant search result and select “Run as administrator”.
After opening Command Prompt with admin privileges, execute this command: C:/Windows/Service/Profiles/Local/Service/AppData/Local/MicrosoftNgc /T /Q /C /RESET
The command you entered will start checking for errors and fix them automatically.
Option 5 – Run the System File Checker scan and the DISM tool
System File Checker:
Tap Win + R to launch Run.
Type in cmd in the field and tap Enter.
After opening Command Prompt, type in sfc /scannow
The command will start a system scan which will take a few whiles before it finishes. Once it’s done, you could get the following results:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Now restart your computer.
DISM tool:
Open Command Prompt.
Then type in the following commands and make sure to hit Enter right after you type each one of them:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
After that, wait until the process is finished and do not close the window as the process will probably take a couple of minutes.
Same as in previous Windows versions, Windows 11 will also use certain applications as default ones for opening certain file types and file extensions. And yes, same as in previous versions it will come preconfigured for certain file types and associated applications like for example photos for pictures.
Of course, users usually have their own favorite applications for certain file types and much more prefer to open them inside the application of their choice instead of the default one.
We can change the default application like in previous Windows versions but this time there are two ways and overall more control of this process. Windows 11 has settings for choosing default file type applications and default file extension applications giving you more control of this process.
The opening setting for apps
Whatever you wish to change default application or default extension application you will need to open settings for default application. Follow steps to quickly go into it.
Press ⊞ WINDOWS + I to open settings
Select Apps on left
On the right part select Default Apps
Now you are in settings for choosing default applications
Choosing default application by file type extension
This is considering by Microsoft as a typical way to set default applications inside Windows 11. Once you are inside the settings app there is a box labeled Enter a file type or link type. Inside the search box, type in file extension that you wish to associate the application with like .JPG, .TXT, or other.
If the file extension is not associated with any application you will be presented with a Choose a Default button, if however, the file extension is already associated with the app, you will need to click on the app box itself.
In any case, a pop-up will appear and ask How do you want to open YOUR FILE EXTENSION files from now on? Choose Application from the list of presented ones and click on OK.
Choosing default file type
Another method is to select the default application by file type selecting application for it. In the settings screen, under the search box, you will have a list of installed applications. Choose the application that you would like to associate a file type with and click on it. On the next details screen scroll down and select the file type that you want to associate with the selected application and click on OK.
Other/third method
There is also the third method for choosing the default application for file type but it includes some surfing on your hard drive and it can be more time-consuming for first-time settings. But it is fairly quick when you need to only use it once on some new file type (for example you have a new application installed and want to switch just one file type extension to that application).
Locate the file that you want to associate with the application and right-click on it. Select Open With from the menu and then Choose Another App. Pop up will appear, select the application that you would like to use, and check the box beside Always use this app to open CHOOSEN EXTENSION files followed by clicking on the OK button.
