Installing Windows 11 on Raspberry Pi 4

A lot of controversies and mixed emotions have come from statements about Windows 11 minimum system requirements, especially ones linked to TPM.

Naturally, each time some software company giant announces how things are must have there are people who go out and prove them wrong.

This time Raspberry Pi community was one which demonstrated that not only Raspberry Pi does not have a TPM module, it can run the full desktop version of Windows 11

Raspberry Pi 4 and things you need for Windows 11 installation

In order to actually install Windows 11 on your Pi, there are certain things that you will need. Check out the below list and prepare everything.

Raspberry Pi 4 4GB or 8GB
A 32GB or larger SSD via a USB 3 caddy. Best for performance or 16GB or larger microSD card
USB boot enabled, see below.
A micro SD card with the latest Raspberry Pi OS
Windows 10 PC
USB to Ethernet or WiFi dongle
Bluetooth dongle (if you want Bluetooth)
Keyboard, mouse, HDMI, and power for your Raspberry Pi

Configuring Pi to boot from SSD

In order to boot from SSD be sure that firmware and bootloader are up to date on the latest version and upgrade if needed. Be aware that this firmware update can only be performed using the official Raspberry Pi OS.

Also if you are eager and want to use a standard microSSD card instead of an SSD to run Windows 11 feel free to skip this entire section.

Boot from microSSD with the latest Raspberry Pi OS on it.
Update firmware and OS using the terminal by typing
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo rpi-update
Reboot your Pi
Install the latest version of bootloader again using the terminal with the command
sudo rpi-eeprom-update -d – a
Reboot Pi
Launch raspi-config on your Pi via terminal with
sudo raspi-config
Select option 3 (Boot options – Configure options for start-up) from boot options
Select Boot ROM version and press ENTER
Select latest and then OK
Select NO when prompted to reset boot ROM to defaults on the latest version boot ROM selected screen. Press OK
Select Boot order and press ENTER
Select USB Boot and click on OK and remove microSD card from Pi
Select Finish and click on NO when prompted to reboot

Creating Windows 11 installation image for Pi 4

In order to install Windows 11 on our Pi, we must create an installation image, follow the steps below explaining the process.

Go to https://uupdump.net/
Search for Windows 11 Arm
Select the latest build for arm64
Select Language on which you would like installer and Windows
Pick Windows edition you would like
Set download method to Download and convert to ISO and click on Create download package
Extract downloaded content into win11 folder and go into it
Double click on uup_download_windows.cmd
On the security warning screen click on More info and then on Run anyway
Wait for the process to finish completely
Once the process is finished, press 0 to close the prompt

Installing image on microSSD or SSD

If previous steps of instruction were follower precisely you now have an ISO image that can be installed onto microSSD or SSD

Connect SSD or insert microSSD card into your PC
Go to https://www.worproject.ml/downloads
Download Windows on Raspberry imager and extract it into the win11 folder
Open Imager and allow it to make changes to your computer, set your language, and click on next
Select storage drive where you would like to install Windows
Set device type and click on next
Select our Windows 11 ISO image we created and click on next
On the drivers screen select Use the latest driver package available on the server
On UEFI firmware select screen choose Use the latest firmware available on the server
On configuration screen click on next
Check your setting on the installation overview and if everything is ok click on install
Wait for the whole process to be finished
Once the process is completed, close Windows on Raspberry imager, take out SSD or microSSD card from PC and connect it on your Pi along with Pi peripherals.

Setting Windows 11 on Pi

In order to actually use Windows 11 on our Raspberry Pi we now have to set up the Windows 11 install using the standard post-installation setup sequence.

Power up Pi and press ESC when prompted
Go to Device manager and press ENTER
Select Raspberry Pi Configuration
Select Advanced configuration
Set Limit RAM to 3GB to a disabled state, press F10 to save, and ESC to exit.
Select Display configuration
Set the resolution to desired option and press ENTER, F10 to save, and ESC to exit
Go to CPU configuration
Check if the CPU clock is set to default, if not set it
Press ESC to go back all the way to the main menu
Select Continue to exit BIOS and boot your Raspberry Pi with Windows 11 on it

And there you have it, fully working Windows 11 OS on Raspberry Pi despite what Microsoft says

Note that due to lack of some drivers performance can be less than optimal, for example, full HD videos will not work since there are no compatible graphic drivers for Pi and some other stuff like Wi-Fi will also cause some issues but overall Windows 11 is working pretty well.

Fake Windows 11 installers come with malware

Being in the Microsoft Windows insider program will let you get a hands-on new Windows 11, but some people just want Windows 11 without being in the insider program. Well, people beware! It was detected that some groups have been releasing fake Windows 11 installers with malware into them. There’s one malicious file called 86307_windows 11 builds 21996.1 x64 + activator.exe. Based on the filename, one might guess that it includes Windows 11 build 21996.1, and on top of that, there’s something in it that will automatically activate Windows for you. It comes in at 1.75GB, so for some people, that might seem reasonable. It starts out looking like a normal installer, and then there’s a second installer that calls itself a download manager. If you accept the nonsense agreement that’s included, you get a bunch of malware. This is just one example of malicious installers running amok internet, but there are more of them with different software placed inside. Malware can be anything from adware to a Trojan virus. The adware usually isn’t super dangerous. It’s just malware that’s meant to inject your PC with advertisements. Viruses can be more of an issue, and they can be harder to get rid of if your machine is infected. Windows Defender does a good job of getting rid of this stuff. The only problem is that if you’re downloading Windows 11 from shady sources, you’re probably already set to click through the dozen or so warnings that pop up telling you not to install it. The solution will be to get Windows from a trusted source of roll inside the insider program and get it from Microsoft directly.

Changing color of START menu in Windows 10

The new Windows 10 update has brought some fixes, improvements, and little things to personalize our computer more. One of these personalization updates we have received is that we can now finally change the color of our START menu and taskbar and it is easy as 1,2,3. In order to change and personalize your START menu and/or title bars all you have to do is click on your windows icon to bring the start menu up and then click on settings.

Once you are in setting windows go to personalization settings.

check ones you wish to apply the effect to and you are done. Now your START menu and/or title bars are using the color scheme of your choice.

Disable Telemetry & Data Collection in Windows

The Windows 10 Telemetry and Data Collection features are auto-enabled and they collect all sorts of user activity and sends it to Microsoft. Microsoft says that the data collected only enhances the overall user experience and Windows functionality better but the number of data breaches happening across the globe has forced users to be extra cautious about their data privacy. So naturally, from stronger passwords and other services management, it is only logical to turn off Windows data gathering. To do so:

Press ⊞ WINDOWS + R to open the run dialog.
In the Run dialog type: taskschd.msc
Press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER key combo to open Task Scheduler in admin mode.
On the left pane, navigate to the: Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > Customer Experience Improvement Program
At the location, on the middle pane, right-click on the task named Consolidator and select Disable from the context menu...
Repeat the process with all other tasks listed in the middle pane.
Exit Task Scheduler.

Disable widgets menu inside Windows 11

The new widget's menu inside Windows 11 is generally met with a positive attitude but there are still users which prefer not to have it. Please note that both methods will only hide the button to toggle widgets menu, at the current state there is no really a way to actually turn it off, only hide it and make it not available to bring it up.

Increase or decrease notification display time

As you know, the Windows 10 Action Center has a stack of all the notifications that come from different applications on your computer. So each time an app displays notifications, it will be displayed for about 5 seconds and then it disappears right away. Although the allotted time for the notifications to be displayed is quite enough to catch your attention and help you get a glance at the message, there are times when you might miss it and you hoped it could’ve been displayed a lot longer. So in this post, you will be guided on how you can increase or decrease the display time of the notification in Windows 10. The best way you can view the missed notification is to click on the Action Center. From there, you will see all the notifications that are grouped by the applications. This means that if you have a lot of notifications, it would be hard for you to find what you are looking for. Thus, in such cases, the best way you can do is to increase the display time for which notification to stay on the screen.

Step 1: Tap the Win + I keys to open Settings. Step 2: Next, navigate to Home > Ease of Access > Display. Step 3: After that, scroll down to the end until you see the dropdown to change the notifications where you should see the “Show notifications for”. Step 4: Then you can change the time from the default 5 seconds to 7, 15, 30, and so on. Step 5: Once done, the display time of the notifications should stay longer but keep in mind that you must choose the length wisely so if you have notifications from a lot of apps, then the screen will also be filled with multiple notification cards.

Fix Your PC can’t project to another screen

In case you don’t know, Windows 10 comes with a native ability to project to another screen, be it wireless or wired. All it takes to do that is by tapping the Win + P key combination to display options to manage the extended display. However, there are times when you might encounter errors when you do that like the “Your PC can’t project to another screen” error. This kind of error stops you from projecting your computer to the other screen. Here’s the full content of the error message:

“Your PC can’t project to another screen, Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card.”

This error could be due to loosely connected hardware or the display adapter. It is also possible that a recent Windows Update has messed up its settings. To resolve this issue, you can try several suggestions that will be given in this post. You can try to check the hardware cable connections or run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. You could also update or reinstall the display adapters or replace the graphics card.

Option 1 – Try checking the hardware connections

The first thing you have to do before you further troubleshoot the problem is to check the hardware connections of your computer and see if there are damaged ones, just like with the ports as it would also affect the overall connectivity of the device with the computer. You also have to make sure that no pin is missing from the ports. So if you notice some irregularities in the connecting cable physically, you might have to buy another one and replace it and then see if it fixes the problem or not.

Option 2 – Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooters

The first thing you need to do is click on Start and then on the gear-like icon to pull up the window for Settings.
After opening Settings, look for the Update and Security option and select it.
From there, go to the Troubleshoot option located on the left-hand side of the list.
Next, select Hardware and Devices from the list and open the Troubleshooter and run it. Once it is doing its job, wait for it to complete the process and then restart the system.
After the system restarts, check if the problem’s now fixed. If not, refer to the next option given below.

Option 3 – Try to update or reinstall the display adapters

You might also want to update the drivers for Display adapters and Monitors or you might also have to update or reinstall your NVIDIA driver if you’re using one. To update or reinstall the display adapters, follow these steps:

Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box and then type in MSC and tap Enter or click OK to open the Device Manager.
Expand the section for Display Adapters.
And then select the Display Driver and right-click on it.
From the drop-down menu, select the Update Driver option and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest version of the Display Driver.
Restart your PC after the installation.

If you find that updating the drivers does not help, you can try to reinstall them. How? Simply follow the steps below.

Tap the Win + X keys and select the Device Manager.
After that, look for the affected driver in the Device Manager window. And if you see a yellow exclamation mark beside it, right-click on it and select the option “Rollback” to roll back the driver.
And if the Rollback option is not available, just select Uninstall and then restart your PC.
Finally, open the Devices Manager once again and select the option “Scan for hardware changes” to install the driver.

Option 4 – Consider replacing the graphics card

You might also want to consider replacing the graphics card of your computer to resolve the problem if the options provided above didn’t work.

Chrome Roblox malware

Roblox is a very popular online game with millions of gamers playing it each day and as such it will naturally bring a lot of malware and attack on players trying to steal and exploit them for monetary gains. Changing the Ownership of a File or Folder

There are many times when you have to change the ownership of a folder or a file so that other users can use them as well or if you want to transfer files to them, or an old account has been removed and all the files need to be assigned to a new user.
