Fix Err_Connection_Closed in Windows

If you suddenly encounter an error message that says, “This webpage is not available, Err_Connection_Closed” while browsing the internet or visiting a website and the website fails to load, then it means that there is some problem with your network connection. Similarly, you may also get other error messages like “Err_Network_Changed”, “Err_Connection_Reset” and “Err_Internet_Disconnected” errors in different browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

The problem lies in your Windows 10 computer and your internet connection since this is a network issue. So before you troubleshoot the problem using the suggestions given below, you need to refresh your browser first or you could also tap Ctrl + F5 on your keyboard to hard reload the webpage. If you’re still getting the same error message, then proceed to the guide below.

Option 1 – Try removing the Proxy

Removing the Proxy might also help you in fixing the “This webpage is not available, Err_Connection_Closed” error. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
  • Then type “inetcpl.cpl” in the field and hit Enter to pull up the Internet Properties.
  • After that, go to the Connections tab and select the LAN settings.
  • From there. Uncheck the “Use a Proxy Server” option for your LAN and then make sure that the “Automatically detect settings” option is checked.
  • Now click the OK and the Apply buttons.
  • Restart your PC.

Note: If you are using a third-party proxy service, you have to disable it.

Option 2 – Try using Google Public DNS

If the first option didn’t resolve the issue, you can try to use the Public DNS by Google and see if it can help fix the problem. You have to modify the DNS settings in your system explicitly and use the DNS IP addresses.

  • The first thing you have to do is right-click on the network icon in the Taskbar and select Network and Sharing Center.
  • Next, click on the “Change Adapter Settings” option.
  • After that, search for the network connection that you are using to connect to the internet. Note that the option might be “Wireless Connection” or “Local Area Connection”.
  • Right-click on your network connection and click on Properties.
  • Then select the new window to choose the “Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4)” option.
  • After that, click on the Properties button and click the checkbox in the new window for the option “Use the following DNS server addresses”.
  • Type in “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4” and click OK and exit.

Option 3 – Reset Winsock, TCP/IP & Flush DNS

Resetting Winsock, TCP/IP, and flushing DNS might help you resolve the Err_Connection_Closed error. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Right-click on the Start button and click on Command Prompt (administrator) so you can pull up an elevated Command Prompt.
  • After that, execute each one of the commands listed below. And after you typed in one after the other, you have to hit Enter.
  1. netsh winsock reset – type in this command to reset Winsock
  2. netsh int ip reset resettcpip.txt – type in this command to reset TCP/IP
  3. ipconfig /flushdns – type in this command to flush the DNS cache
  • Next, restart your PC and check if the problem’s fixed.

Option 4 – Disable both the Antivirus program and Firewall temporarily

There are times when antivirus programs and the firewall blocks a website that they consider to be malicious or even because of false-positive effects which is why you have to disable these programs temporarily as it might be the reason why you’re getting the “This webpage is not available, Err_Connection_Closed” error when trying to browse the internet.

Option 5 – Try to check the network cables and then restart your router

The most obvious thing you can do first is to try checking if the network cables connected to your computer or router are properly connected or not. If it turns out that some network cables are not connected properly, then it’s probably why you’re getting this error.

Option 6 –Try a Network Reset

When all else fails, you might have to consider resetting your entire network settings. Simply follow the steps below to do so.

  • Click on the Start button and then click on the gear-like icon for Settings to open it.
  • Next, select Network and Internet.
  • Then scroll down and look for “Network Reset” – click on it and then click on the Reset now button.

How to get rid of Iminent Emoticons (Iminent.com)

Iminent Emoticons is a browser plugin developed by IMinent. This extension offers users a whole new way to chat by adding new emojis, memes, and other interesting features to social media chats. However, upon further investigation, we did not manage to get this extension work or show up in any chat.

While installing this extension may display additional ads throughout your browsing sessions depending if it has an affiliate link for the desired search terms. It may also change your default search engine and home page to search.iminent.com (depending on the extension version).

Malware has been detected in this extension by several anti-virus programs and is therefore not recommended to keep on your computer.

About Browser Hijackers

Browser hijacking means a malicious code has power over and modified the settings of your internet browser, without your consent. Nearly all browser hijackers are created for advertising or marketing purposes. Generally, hijackers are programmed for the benefit of internet hackers usually through revenue generation that comes from forced advert mouse clicks and website visits. Most people think that these websites are legitimate and harmless but that is not the case. Nearly every browser hijacker poses an actual threat to your online safety and it’s necessary to categorize them under privacy risks. Some browser hijackers are programmed to make certain modifications beyond the browsers, like changing entries in the computer registry and letting other types of malware further damage your PC.

Browser hijacking signs and symptoms

There are various symptoms that indicate the internet browser is hijacked: the browser’s home-page is modified; you get re-directed to internet sites you never meant to visit; The default search page of your web browser is altered; unwanted new toolbars are added to your browser; your browser displays constant pop-up ads; websites load very slowly and sometimes incomplete; you have prohibited entry to specific web pages, including the website of an anti-malware software manufacturer like SafeBytes.

Exactly how browser hijacker infects PCs

Browser hijackers can get into a computer by some means or other, for instance via downloads, file sharing, and e-mail too. They can also be deployed through the installation of a web browser toolbar, add-on, or extension. A browser hijacker may also come bundled up with some freeware which you unintentionally download and install, compromising your PC security. Some of the well-known hijackers are Iminent Emoticons, Babylon Toolbar, Conduit Search, OneWebSearch, Sweet Page, and CoolWebSearch. The existence of any browser hijacker on your computer might drastically diminish the browsing experience, track your online activities that result in serious privacy concerns, diminish overall system performance and cause application instability also.

The best ways to get rid of a browser hijacker

Certain browser hijacking can be easily reversed by discovering and eliminating the corresponding malware application through your control panel. But, most browser hijackers are hard to get rid of manually. Irrespective of how much you try to remove it, it may keep coming back again and again. Rookie computer users shouldn’t ever attempt the manual form of removal methods, as it needs in-depth system knowledge to carry out fixes on the computer registry and HOSTS file. Installing and running antivirus applications on the affected computer could automatically delete browser hijackers and also other malicious applications. One of the greatest tools for fixing browser hijacker malware is SafeBytes Anti-Malware. It will help you get rid of any pre-existing malware in your system and gives you real-time monitoring and protection from new threats. Employ a system optimiser along with your anti-malware software to fix various registry problems, eliminate computer vulnerabilities, and enhance your computer's overall performance.

Learn How to Eliminate Malware that is Blocking Websites or Preventing Downloads

Malware could cause all sorts of damage if they invade your computer, ranging from stealing your personal information to erasing files on your PC. Certain malware variants alter internet browser settings by including a proxy server or change the PC’s DNS settings. In these cases, you’ll be unable to visit some or all internet sites, and thus not able to download or install the necessary security software to clear out the infection. So what should you do if malicious software prevents you from downloading or installing Anti-Malware? There are some solutions you can attempt to get around with this particular obstacle.

Boot your computer in Safe Mode

The Windows OS comes with a special mode known as “Safe Mode” in which just the minimum required applications and services are loaded. In the event, the virus is set to load automatically when PC boots, shifting into this mode may prevent it from doing so. To start the computer into Safe Mode, hit the “F8” key on the keyboard right before the Windows boot screen appears; Or right after normal Windows boot up, run MSConfig, look over “Safe Boot” under Boot tab, and click Apply. As soon as you restart into Safe Mode with Networking, you can download, install, and update the anti-malware program from there. Now, you can actually run the antivirus scan to get rid of computer viruses and malware without interference from another application.

Switch to an alternate browser

Certain viruses might target vulnerabilities of a specific web browser that obstruct the downloading process. The most effective solution to avoid this issue is to choose an internet browser that is known for its security features. Firefox contains built-in Malware and Phishing Protection to help keep you safe online.

Run antivirus from a pen drive

Here’s yet another solution which is using a portable USB anti-virus software package that can check your system for malicious software without needing installation. Adopt these measures to employ a USB flash drive to clean your infected computer system. 1) Download the anti-malware on a virus-free PC. 2) Plug in the USB drive to a USB port on the clean computer. 3) Run the setup program by double-clicking the executable file of the downloaded application, with a .exe file format. 4) Select the drive letter of the USB drive as the place when the wizard asks you where you want to install the anti-virus. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation. 5) Now, transfer the pen drive to the infected PC. 6) Double-click the EXE file to run the Safebytes tool right from the pen drive. 7) Run Full System Scan to identify and get rid of all sorts of malware.

You may also want to reset your home page and search engine providers, and also delete temporary files, browsing history, and internet cookies. If you choose to manually remove the system files and Windows registry entries, utilize the following checklist to make sure you know exactly what files to remove before executing any actions. Please keep in mind that only experienced computer users should try to manually edit the system files because deleting any single vital registry entry results in a major problem or even a PC crash. In addition to that, some malware is capable of replicating or preventing deletion. You are urged to do this procedure in Safe Mode.

Delete large System Error Reporting files
In case you don’t know, Windows contains a feedback mechanism that generates error reports from hardware and software problems. These reports are temporarily stored in the system and send them back to Microsoft so that it can find solutions to the reported problems and fix them in the upcoming updates.  However, as time goes by, these reports actually take a lot of space in your computer which is why end-users like you are free to delete them with the help of the new Free Up Space feature in Windows 10. As useful the Free Up Space feature may be, there are times when you won’t be able to use it for some reason which is why in this post, you will be guided on how to use alternative ways in deleting very large System queued Windows Error Reporting file, some of which may run in Gigabytes. Every time the Windows Error Reporting or WER sends out an error file and looks for a solution, the WER server at Microsoft sends out a solution instantly. And if the solution is under investigation or is unknown, then you will be notified about it right away and will be asked for more details. As mentioned, even though the Free Up Space feature in Settings will be able to clear the error reporting files, there are instances when it won’t be able to delete very large System queued Windows Error Reporting files. Alternatively, there is an option to delete these files using the Disk Cleanup Utility. Feel free to select which option you’d like to use to get rid of Windows Error Reporting Files.

Option 1 – Delete Windows Error Reporting Files via Settings

  • Go to Settings.
  • From there, go to System > Storage > Free Up Space and then click on it to launch it.
  • Afterward, give it some time to populate all the files and folders. Once it’s done, select “System created Windows Error Reporting files” to mark its checkbox while leaving the other options unchecked.
  • Next, click on the Remove files button to delete all the Windows Error Reporting files from your computer.

Option 2 – Manually delete the Windows Error Reporting Files

  • Tap the Win + E keys to open File Explorer.
  • Next, enable the Hidden Files view from the menu.
  • Then go to C:/ProgramData/MicrosoftWindowsWER.
  • From there, you will see various folders like LocalReportArchive, ReportArchive, ReportQueue, and Temp.
  • Open each one of the aforementioned folders and delete the archive files. Note that these files will have names similar to “00c58c1f-b836-4703-9bcf-c699ca24d285”.
Note: If you are not able to delete any of these files, you have to take ownership of the folder. To do so, refer to these steps:
  • Right-click on the folder and then select Properties.
  • Next, click on the Edit button in the Properties window and click OK to confirm if you got a User Account Control elevation request.
  • After that, select user/group from the permission windows or click on the Add button to add another user or group. It would be best if you add “Everyone” to give permission.
  • Then check “Full Control” under the “Allow” column to assign full access rights control permissions.
  • Now edit the permission to Full Control for “Everyone”.
  • Click OK to save the changes made and then exit.
On the other hand, if you do not want to go through all these troubles in deleting the Windows Error Reporting files, you can just disable it especially if it already becomes a daily annoyance as the files generate every day and their sizes are mostly gigabytes. And besides, there are times when these files do not make it to the Microsoft WER server and end up only occupying a lot of space for nothing.

How to remove FindWide

FindWide is a browser add-on for Internet Explorer. This addon Hijacks your home page and internet search provider changing it to search.findwide.com. Alternate versions change the homepage to search.us.com.

While browsing with this addon enabled you will see additional ads, sponsored links, and even sometimes pop-up ads displaying throughout your browsing sessions.

Several anti-virus programs have marked this addon as a Browser Hijacker and is therefore not recommended to keep on your computer.

From the Author: Each search engine has its own method of searching and each will return different results. Findwide.com looks at all of them, decides which are most relevant to your search, eliminates duplicates, and reveals them to you. In the end, you get a list of results more complete than using any one search engine alone.

Help! Malware Blocking Antivirus Installation And Access To The Internet

Viruses could cause plenty of damage to your computer. Some malware is meant to restrict or block things that you wish to do on your personal computer. It may well not permit you to download anything from the net or it will stop you from accessing some or all websites, especially the anti-malware websites. If you’re reading this, you probably have got infected by a virus that prevents you from installing a computer security program like Safebytes Antimalware on your PC. Even though this kind of problem can be tougher to get around, there are some steps you can take.

Download the application in Safe Mode with Networking

If any virus is set to run automatically when Microsoft Windows starts, entering Safe Mode could block the attempt. Since only the bare minimum applications and services launch in safe mode, there are seldom any reasons for conflicts to take place. To launch your Windows XP, Vista, or 7 PCs in Safe Mode with Networking, follow the instructions below. 1) Press the F8 key continuously as soon as your computer boots, but before the big Windows logo comes up. This will bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu. 2) Choose Safe Mode with Networking using arrow keys and press ENTER. 3) When you are into this mode, you will have online access again. Now, utilize your browser to download and install Safebytes. 4) Following installation, do a full scan and let the software get rid of the threats it discovers.

Switch over to an alternate web browser

Certain malware might target vulnerabilities of a specific web browser that obstruct the downloading process. In the event you suspect that your Internet Explorer has been hijacked by malware or otherwise compromised by hackers, the best course of action is to switch over to an alternate internet browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari to download your chosen computer security application – Safebytes Anti-Malware.

Install antivirus on a USB drive

Here’s another solution which is using portable USB anti-malware software that can scan your computer for malicious software without needing installation. Follow these steps to run the anti-malware on the affected computer system. 1) Download Safebytes Anti-Malware or MS Windows Defender Offline onto a clean computer. 2) Plug the Flash drive into the uninfected computer. 3) Double-click the exe file to open the installation wizard. 4) When asked, select the location of the pen drive as the place in which you want to put the software files. Follow the directions to complete the installation process. 5) Transfer the USB drive from the clean PC to the infected PC. 6) Double-click the anti-malware software EXE file on the thumb drive. 7) Press the “Scan” button to run a full computer scan and remove malware automatically.

Technical Details and Manual Removal (Advanced Users)

If you do not wish to use an automated tool and like to eliminate FindWide manually, you could possibly do so by going to the Windows Add/Remove Programs menu in the Control Panel and deleting the offending program; in cases of browser plug-ins, you can uninstall it by visiting the browser’s Add-on/Extension manager. You might also want to reset your home page and search engine providers and also clear your browser cache and cookies. Finally, examine your hard disk for all of the following and clean your Windows registry manually to remove leftover application entries following uninstalls. But bear in mind, this is often a complicated task and only computer professionals could perform it safely. In addition, some malware is capable of replicating or preventing removal. Carrying out this malware-removal process in Safe Mode is suggested.

How to Fix Windows 10 Error Code 0xC004E003

What is Error Code 0xC004E003?

Error code 0xC004E003 almost always appears when there are damaged files in the Windows operating system. These files could be corrupt for a number of reasons and are usually a serious danger to the life of the computer system. These file errors may be caused by a number of things. Incomplete installation setup, incorrect deletion of hardware or utilities, or an unfinished file erasure. The trigger might also be in the event that the computer system is contaminated with a virus or adware or spyware, or even by the improper shut down of the computer. Any of these scenarios have the possibility to result in the removal or corruption of data of the Windows system data files.

The data system files that are damaged will give linked data and archives that are missing or wrongly linked. These are needed for the proper functioning of the software. This can also happen when or after installing third-party software that might have changed the system files. If it is suspected that a program installation will need to be stopped, it is best to let it run through the setup and then delete it later. While it installs, it is altering program files, and likely rearranging them. Stopping this in the middle can scramble files associated with the program and files vital to the usage of the computer.

Solution

Restoro box imageError Causes

This error will pop up after installing third-party software that has changed the system files. These system files are necessary to finish the activation process. A restore point will be necessary if it is ultimately determined that a system restore is necessary, to bring the computer back to the state it was in previous to the failed installation.

  2. Click on Get Started, then select Programs, Accessories, Tools, and then System Restore.
  3. On the next screen, click on Restore my PC to an Earlier Period, and then click Next.
  4. Select the most recent system restore date within the drop-down menu of “select restore point”.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Next on the confirmation window.
  7. Reboot the system after the system has finished restoring.
  • Method Three

Another option for restoring. This method can be used by a novice.

  1. Right-click on the Start button, then select Control Panel.
  2. Look for the Control Panel for Recovery.
  3. Select Recovery, then Open System Restore, then Next.
  4. Choose the restore point right before the problematic installation.
  5. Click Next, click Finish.

NOTE: If there are no restore points available, the system recovery may not be turned on. To check this, go to Control Panel, and select Recovery. Configure System Restore, Configure. Fix Setup has failed Error in Windows
If you encounter the “Setup has failed to determine supported install choices” error when trying to downgrade or upgrade your Windows 10 computer, this signifies that there are some compatibility issues with the installation process and that Windows was not able to either downgrade or upgrade to another version. Usually, this error occurs when you are using the built-in options in Windows 10 upgrade or downgrade to another version of Windows. This option is mostly used as it keeps the user settings as well as data intact. Thus, you need to keep in mind a lot of parameters before you proceed with the installation because if there is any conflict in the process, you certainly won’t be able to downgrade or upgrade your Windows computer. To resolve the issue, here are some suggestions that might help.

Option 1 – Try running in Compatibility mode

This is the first thing you can try to resolve the issue instead of going right ahead on making a bootable device. So if you are downgrading Windows, you can try to run the installer in the compatibility mode for that specific Windows version.
  • Look for the setup file.
  • Once you find it, right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu.
  • After that, go to the Compatibility tab and mark the checkbox for “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and from the drop-down list, select either Windows 7 or Windows 8.
  • You also have to check the “Run as administrator” option.
  • Now click the Apply button and then click OK to save the changes made and check if it has resolved the issue or not.

Option 2 – Option 2 – Try troubleshooting compatibility

This option is almost the same as the first one except it is an alternative way of fixing the “Setup has failed to determine supported install choices” error in case the first one didn’t work. In this option, you will troubleshoot the compatibility issue.
  • Look for the setup file.
  • Then right-click on it and select the “Troubleshoot compatibility” from the context menu.
  • After that, click on the “Try recommended setting” option. Once the process is done, the error message should be gone.

Option 3 – Try to use the setup file instead of an image

If you are running the Windows ISO image for the installation, you can try running the setup file instead. This is because when you try to install Windows from an image file directly, it has to be loaded into a virtual CD drive first, and then from there, further operations are carried out. And so, you can just bypass this mechanism to avoid getting the “Setup has failed to determine supported install choices” error.
  • First, you need to extract the disk file to an accessible location.
  • After that, go to Sources > Setup.exe.
  • Now run the setup file to upgrade or downgrade the Windows version. Just make sure that you do run the setup file as an administrator.

Option 4 – Try to do the upgrade or downgrade in a Clean Boot state

Putting your PC in a Clean Boot state can also help when you want to upgrade or downgrade your version of Windows without any trouble because, during this state, you can start the system with a minimum number of drivers and startup programs that will surely help you in isolating the root cause of the issue.
  • Log onto your PC as an administrator.
  • Type in MSConfig in the Start Search to open the System Configuration utility.
  • From there, go to the General tab and click “Selective startup”.
  • Clear the “Load Startup items” checkbox and make sure that the “Load System Services” and “Use Original boot configuration” options are checked.
  • Next, click the Services tab and select the “Hide All Microsoft Services” checkbox.
  • Click Disable all.
  • Click on Apply/OK and restart your PC. (This will put your PC into a Clean Boot State. And configure Windows to use the usual startup, just simply undo the changes.)
  • After that, try to install the Windows Updates or upgrade again.

Option 5 – Try to use the Media Creation tool

The Media Creation tool in Windows allows you to use the ISO installation file to make a bootable device that you can use to install Windows on your PC. Note that this is kind of different from the usual installation process as it could erase your computer’s current settings and data on the primary drive. Thus, before you proceed, you need to backup all your data into some removable drive and then use the Media Creation Tool to make a bootable drive.
  • After making the bootable drive, you need to plug it into your computer and then reboot.
  • Next, tap the F10 or Esc key to open the boot options.
  • Now set the boot priority of the removable drive the highest. Once the setup comes forth, follow the next onscreen instructions and install Windows without any problems.

About Browser Hijackers

Precisely what is a PUP?

If you’ve ever downloaded a free application or shareware, chances are high that the computer can get installed with a bunch of unwanted applications. A PUA / PUP (potentially unwanted application / potentially unwanted program) is a software program that comes bundled with free software and you consent to install it on your PC. These are programs you almost certainly don’t want on your computer simply because it doesn’t give any valuable service. Despite being regarded as very detrimental, PUPs aren’t always viruses or malware One simple difference between PUP and malware is distribution. Malware is normally dropped by silent installation vectors like drive-by downloads while PUP gets installed with the consent of the computer user, who purposefully or unknowingly approves the PUP installation on its PC. Having said that, there is no doubt that PUPs remain bad news for PC users as they can be incredibly damaging to the computer in numerous ways.

Exactly how do unwanted programs look like?

Potentially Unwanted Programs appear in different forms and varieties, however, in the majority of instances, they are adware programs that exhibit irritating pop-up ads and advertisements on websites you explore. In addition, the majority of free programs these days come with some unwanted add-ons; in most cases an internet browser toolbar or browser modification like a homepage hijacker. They’ll keep track of your online routines, redirect your search results to risky websites where viruses can be downloaded and installed, hijack your home page, and slow your browser down to a crawl. Potentially Unwanted Programs occasionally act quite much like computer viruses or spyware. They might carry keyloggers, dialers, browser hijackers, and tracking components that gather system details, or tracks customer habits and relays this information to third-party firms. Even if the PUPs really aren’t basically malicious, these software programs still do absolutely nothing good on your personal computer – they will take valuable system resources, slow down your PC, weaken your computer security, and make your system more susceptible to trojans.

How do you avoid PUPs?

• Read cautiously before accepting the license agreement as it may have a clause about PUPs. • Always opt for the custom if you’re presented an option between “Custom” and “Recommended” Installations – never click Next, Next, Next blindly. • Have a top-notch antivirus program like Safebytes Anti-Malware which can protect your computer from PUPs. As soon as you install this software, protection from malware and PUPs is already switched on. • Think carefully before you download any kind of shareware or freeware. Disable or get rid of toolbars and browser extensions you don’t really need. • Only use official product websites for downloading programs. Stay away from download portals altogether as most websites compel users to download the software using their own download manager, which is often bundled up with some sort of PUPs.
