If you are using a SCSI hard disk, be sure to have the drivers ready and available for a storage device like a thumb drive to be connected. While on the Windows 10 setup, select the Custom Advanced Option then use the Load Driver command to load the right driver for the SCSI drive. If the setup still fails, try switching to an IDE-based hard disk.
Launch a clean boot, restart your device, then try again.
If you are upgrading to Windows 10 using the .ISO file, make sure to disconnect from your internet connection during setup. If your device is connected by Wi-Fi or through LAN, you need to disable both before attempting to run a system upgrade again.
Switch to a local account if you are connected to a domain.
Ensure that all external devices such as USB keys, external hard drives, gaming controllers, or printers are not attached to your device.

If you are upgrading to Windows 10 using Windows Update, you can perform a manual repair using the next method.

Method Two: Upgrading Via Windows Update

Make sure to disconnect from the Wi-Fi or LAN once the download reaches 100% before you proceed with the system upgrade.
Press Windows + X to open the command prompt window as an administrator.
Stop the Windows Update service, BITS, MSI Installer, and Cryptographic by inputting the following commands one by one, hitting Enter after every command:

Net stop wuauserv
Net stop bits Net stop msiserver Net stop cryptSvc

Restart both Software Distribution and Catroot2 folders. You can do this by typing Ren C: WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old and Ren C: WindowsSystem32catroot2 Catroot2.old in the command prompt to change the names of both Software Distribution and Catroot2 files.
Restart the Windows Update service, BITS, MSI Installer, and Cryptographic by inputting the following commands one by one, hitting Enter after every command:

Net start wuauserv
Net start bits Net start msiserver Net start cryptSvc

Exit the command prompt then restart your device. You can now try to proceed with the system upgrade again.

Method Three: Disable or Uninstall Antivirus

If you opt to just disable your antivirus, you just have to right-click on the antivirus’ icon from your toolbar then choose Disable.
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to open the Task Manager.
Check if all the files or services linking to your antivirus are turned off.
If you choose to uninstall your antivirus (which is recommended), open Control Panel.
Once the Control Panel window is open, select Programs then Uninstall a Program.
Look for your antivirus on the list, right-click it then choose Uninstall.

Fix cannot open IPv4 Properties in Windows 10

Many Windows 10 users often change the IP addresses of their computers’ network adapter in order to connect to the internet or network they belong to in times when there is no automatic connection for their computers. In most cases, access to modifying this setting is restricted for some odd reason even if you are an administrator. If you want to see the actual name of your network adapter, you can just type this command and tap Enter after doing so – Get-NetAdapter -physical | where status -eq 'up' After entering the given command, you will see a list of active Ethernet adapter in your computer as you can see on the image above. Note that the 4 sets of X like the one on the image below should match with the sequence:

Option 2 – Try editing the rasphone.pbk files

The rasphone.pbk files stores property for the connections and since you are not able to access the IPv4 properties, it is most likely that it has been disabled here. The good thing is that you can open these files and edit them using Notepad. Refer to the steps below to do so.

Open the Windows Explorer and then enable the show hidden files option.
After that, look for the files at this location – C:Users <username>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftNetworkConnectionsPbk_hiddenPbkrasphone.pbk
Then right-click on it and select the “Open with” option and choose the Notepad app.
After opening the file, look for “IpPrioritizeRemote” from the long list.
Once you found it, set its value from “1” to “0”.
After that, look for “IPInterfaceMetric” and set its value to “1” and tap Ctrl + S to save the changes you’ve made, and then exit and try accessing the IPv4 properties again. It should work, but if you’re still unable to access it, try the next option below.

Option 3 – Enable the Split Tunneling if you use VPN

All data goes back and forth when you are using a VPN service on your computer. And since you are using VPN, it could be that it disables the IPv4 interface. If that’s the case, you need to stay connected with both the local network and VPN and to do so, you have to enable Split Tunneling. How? Follow these steps:

Open PowerShell with administrator privileges.
Next, type in “Get-VpnConnection” and tap Enter. After doing so, it will give you the exact name of your VPN.
After that, type in “Set-VpnConnection -Name “yourVPNName” -SplitTunneling $True” and tap Enter. Once you enter the command, it will free your IPv5 settings so that you can change it to connect with your local network if you prefer it to.

Power Calibration Error or Medium Speed Error when burning CD/DVD

If you are one of the few users who is still burning CDs and DVDs, you might have come across an error that says, “Medium Speed Error” or “Power Calibration Error”. There are several factors that could cause this error but it’s most likely that the CD/DVD burner wasn’t able to determine the Optimum Power Calibration rate properly. So what is Optimum Power Calibration rate? It is a test that runs before the burning process to regulate the optimal laser power needed to complete the job. And if this process malfunctions, obviously, you won’t be able to burn the content on your CD or DVD. There are also cases when the Power Calibration error pops up for some small issues that have nothing to do with the regulation of laser power. Here are some quick fixes you can try to resolve the Power Calibration error when burning a CD or DVD.

Option 1 – Make sure you’re using good quality CD or DVD

A lot of burning issues stem down to the purchase of low CDs or DVDs to make sure that what you are using has good quality for it is not always a good idea to purchase cheap products as cheap products could also mean cheap quality.

Option 2 – Try burning at lower speeds

If you’re certain the problem is not with the CD or DVD you are using then you can try burning again, this time at lower speeds. There are instances when doing things quickly can end in a disaster such as the “Medium Speed Error” or “Power Calibration Error” you’re getting. To fix the problem, you have to burn at a slower speed and just take the time to wait until the burning process is done.

Option 3 – Try updating your burning software

It’s always a good idea to check if the burning software you’re using requires an update especially if it’s throwing up “Medium Speed Error” or “Power Calibration Error”. Thus, you need to update your burning software right away and then try to burn your CD or DVD once the update has been completed.

Option 4 – Try cleaning the disk drive

You might want to consider cleaning the disk drive using several tools in the market that is designed to clean the disk drive. These tools work on removing dust particles from the lens which helps a lot in the burning quality. Aside from that, it also helps in reducing errors like “Medium Speed Error” or “Power Calibration Error”. So give this option a try as it might time for a disk drive cleanup.

Option 5 – Try to disable the IMAPI

If none of the options given above worked, you might want to disable the IMAPI or Image Mastering Applications Programming Interface. How? Refer to the steps below.

Open Control Panel by simply clicking the Start button and then typing “control panel” in the field.
Control Panel should pop up in the search results. Once you found it, click it to open it.
Next, select System Security > Administrative Tools and then click Services.
After that, you’ll have to search for the “IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service” option.
Then right-click on it and select Properties.
From there, switch the Startup Type from “Enabled” to “Disabled”.
Now click on Apply and then restart your PC.

Fix Boot Device Not Found Error in Windows

If you encounter an error saying, “Boot Device Not Found” when you turn on your Windows 10 computer, then you’ve come to the right place as this post will guide you on how you can fix this problem. Apart from the error message, you will also see a message that states, “Please install an operating system on your hard disk, Hard Disk<xxx>”. You will then be asked to tap the F2 key to initiate the System Diagnostics. If you install the Windows operating system, it becomes the boot device, and when your computer boots, the UEFI or the BIOS looks for the operating installed on your drive and continues the process. So when you encounter the “Boot Device Not Found” error, this means that the UEFI or the BIOS wasn’t able to locate the drive where it can boot. There are several suggestions you can check out to resolve this error. You can try checking the connection with your boot drive or change the boot order. You can also fix the Boot Record from Recovery and see if the primary partition is active or not. But before you troubleshoot the problem, make sure that you have a bootable Windows USB drive ready since two of the options provided below will require you to boot into the Advanced Recovery mode. Once you have this covered, proceed to each one of the following options.

Option 1 – Try checking the connection with the boot drive

If you have a custom computer that comes with a cabinet, you might want to open it and remove any connected power supply, and then check the wires. As you know, drives are connected with the motherboard using a cable. So all you have to do is check if both ends are connected properly and make sure that the connection is not loose. You could also try to unplug the cable and plug it back in.

Option 2 – Try changing the boot order

You might also want to try changing the boot order of your computer. Each time a computer boots, the BIOS or the UEFI follows a boot order. It is the one that tells where to first look for the boot drive and if for some reason, a USB is connected to your computer and the first boot device found in the USB, then you have resolved the problem. All you have to do is to remove the USB device and boot or go into the BIOS and change the boot order yourself.

Option 3 – Try to rebuild the BCD files

The next thing you can do to resolve the issue is to Rebuild Boot Configuration Data or BCD files.

You can start by booting into the installation environment for Windows 10 from an installation media.
After that, click on Repair your computer and on the blue screen, select Troubleshoot and then select the Advanced options menu.
From there, select Command Prompt and once you open it, enter each one of the commands given below by sequence.
- bootrec /FixMbr
- bootrec /FixBoot
- bootrec /ScanOS
- bootrec /RebuildBcd

Once you’re done executing the commands given above, type “exit” to close the Command Prompt window and then restart your computer and see if it fixed the “Boot Device Not Found” error.

Option 4 – Try setting the System Partition to Active

Like the first given option, you also have to make sure that you have a bootable Windows 10 USB drive before you proceed to set the System Partition to Active. Once you have it covered, refer to these steps:

Boot your computer using the bootable Windows 10 USB drive.
Next, click Next when you get to the Welcome Screen.
Then click on Repair your computer located at the bottom left part of the window and select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
After opening Command Prompt, type the following command and hit Enter to start the Diskpart utility. It is a command line-based utility just like Command Prompt but has a UAC prompt once you provoke it. So if you encounter a UAC prompt, just click on Yes to proceed.

diskpart

Now type the following command:

list disk

From there, select your primary disk by typing the following command:

select disk number

After that, list all the partitions on the selected disk by entering the following command:

list partition

The command you just entered will list all the partitions created on your PC including both types of partitions that are visible to a normal user in the File Explorer as well as the ones created by Windows 10 by default which helps it in storing the boot files and other important system files.
Now type the following command to select the partition that is usually around 100 MB in size:

select partition number

Finally, type the following command to mark the partition active:

active

Then type the “exit” command to exit the disk part utility.

Once it’s done, the primary drive should now be active and you should now be able to boot into your computer without the “Boot Device Not Found” error.
