A new update to popular Microsoft PowerToys has brought a few new features that are aimed at speeding up the workflow.
The first new feature that was slid in is Always on top utility. With this cool utility, you can keep the window as the name suggests, always on top of other windows. To enable this cool feature all you have to do is press the key combination of ⊞ WINDOWS + CTRL + T and an active window will be now always on top of all other windows. To reverse and unlock this window from being always on top just press key combination again.
A second new feature is a really great one and my favorite thing to happen in power toys. Often we are making the search in our browsers to find stuff, things, maybe some explanations, information, etc. The newest update in power toys brings this to a whole new dimension. While you are on PC you just simply need to type ?? followed by questions like: ?? When doctor strange 2 is coming out and that will launch your default browser with your chosen search engine and provide you with the answer.
Third and final thing is G-code support in the file explorer preview pane and thumbnails, meaning that if you work with CNC equipment you can now have a thumbnail preview of the code itself inside File Explorer.
And that’s it for now, thank you for coming and reading, Take care and I hope to see you next time.
If you encounter an error saying, “error accessing the registry” when you try to merge a registry key on your Windows 10 computer, you’re not alone as some users also experienced the same problem. According to these users, they encounter the error after they’ve re-installed their Windows version and tried to open a .reg file.
Based on the reports, this error could occur if the registry file does not have administrative privileges. Meaning to say, the program does not have the necessary permission to merge the .reg file. This is common with fresh installs as well as reinstalls. Moreover, this kind of issue could also occur due to system file corruption. Whichever the case may be, here are some troubleshooting tips you can check out to resolve the error.
Option 1 – Try to import the .reg file with admin privileges
As pointed out, the error may be due to a lack of admin privileges. It could be that the Registry Editor does not have admin privileges to merge the registry file. This is common with new Windows installations especially since the Registry Editor hasn’t been opened before. So you need to import the .reg file again and this time, with admin privileges.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Then type “Regedit” in the field and tap the Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys to open the Registry Editor with admin privileges.
A User Account Control or UAC prompt will appear where you have to click Yes to proceed.
After opening the Registry Editor, go to File > Import using the ribbon bar at the top.
Next, use the import menu to go to the location of the file you were trying to merge. Once you’ve found it, click Open to merge it with your current registry. This should fix the problem. If not, refer to the next options below.
Option 2 – Try performing a System Restore
Running System Restore can also help you fix the error when accessing the Registry. You can do this option either by booting into Safe Mode or in System Restore. If you are already in the Advanced Startup Options, just directly select System Restore and proceed with the next steps. And if you have just booted your PC into Safe Mode, refer to the steps below.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
After that, type in “sysdm.cpl” in the field and tap Enter.
Next, go to the System Protection tab then click the System Restore button. This will open a new window where you have to select your preferred System Restore point.
After that, follow the on-screen instructions to finish the process and then restart your computer and check if the problem is fixed or not.
Once the next startup is complete, you have to merge or import the file again and see if the error is now fixed or not.
Option 3 – Try to perform repair install by creating a Windows 10 installation media
Click this link and then click the Download Tool Now button.
Next, click the “Use the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file)…” option and follow the next given instructions on the screen.
Now select the ISO file option in step 5.
After that, you should now have an ISO file.
Next, go to the location where you’ve downloaded the ISO file.
Then right-click on the Windows 10 ISO file and select the Open with option and then select File Explorer.
Now click on “setup.exe” and follow the next instructions that appear on the screen. When asked, you have to select either Nothing (clean install) or Keep personal files only option. Take note that you must not select the “Keep personal files, apps, and Windows settings since it doesn’t really work.
Option 4 – Try running the System File Checker Scan
As mentioned, the error when accessing the Registry might be caused by file corruption. And that’s where the SFC scan comes in. The SFC or System File Checker scan could detect and automatically repair damaged system files. SFC is a built-in command utility that helps in restoring corrupted files as well as missing files. It replaces bad and corrupted system files with good system files. To run the SFC command, follow the steps given below.
Tap Win + R to launch Run.
Type in cmd in the field and tap Enter.
After opening Command Prompt, type in sfc /scannow
The command will start a system scan which will take a few whiles before it finishes. Once it’s done, you could get the following results:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
In some cases, a couple of Windows 10 laptops, especially the newer ones that run the NVIDIA RTX series GPUs have been experiencing some problems, particularly with their headphone jacks which seem to be malfunctioning even though the internal speakers works just fine. And despite having all the drivers updated to their latest versions, the problem still occurs.
According to security experts, this kind of problem occurs on laptop computers that are manufactured by MSI and since there is still no workaround or reliable fix released by the company, in this post you will be guided on how you can resolve the problem with the headphone jack. So if you are using a laptop made by MSI and are experiencing the same issue, then you’ve come to the right place.
There are several potential fixes you can check out to resolve the problem, you can try to force reboot your computer or clean your headphone jack and then plug it back in properly. After that, plug out and plug in your computer and automatically turn it on.
Once done, check if the headphone jack is now working fine.
Option 2 – Try to clean the headphone jack and plug it properly
The next thing you can do to fix the problem is to clean your headphone jack and plug it back in properly. Make sure that you use a cotton swab in cleaning the headphone jack as there are instances where some dust might have settled in the port which results in issues like your headphone jack no working.
Option 3 – Try to update, rollback or reinstall the Audio driver
If the glitch in your audio has something to do with software, chances are it might be related to the audio driver – it could be that the newest version of your Windows 10 does not work well with the old version of the driver. This is why you have to update your audio driver to the newest available version.
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box and then type in MSC and tap Enter or click OK to open the Device Manager.
Expand the section for the outdated device drivers.
And then select the outdated driver(s) and right-click on it/them.
From the drop-down menu, select the Update Driver option and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest version of the driver.
Then also click on the option, “Search automatically for updated driver software.
Restart your PC after the installation.
Note: If updating or reinstalling the Audio driver didn’t work, you can go to the website of MSI and look for the support section where you can download the drivers for your computer. You just need to take note of your PC’s correct model and model number so you can find the appropriate driver.
Option 4 – Try to set the headphone as the default device manually
There are times when you plug a headphone, it does not toggle the default audio device. Thus, to fix this issue, you have to set the default audio device to the headphones manually. To do that, follow these steps:
First, right-click on the volume icon located on the system tray.
Next, select the Open sound settings option to open the Sound section in the Windows 10 Settings app.
From there, select the Control Panel for Sound on the rightmost column. This will open a new mini window.
After that, select your headphone under the Playback tab and click on the Set default button.
Once done, click on Apply and then OK buttons to save the changes made.
Option 5 – Try to run the Playing Audio Troubleshooter
Since the Windows 10 operating system has the Playing Audio Troubleshooter, you can use this troubleshooter to try and fix the problem with the headphones. You can access this tool in the Control Panel or in the Taskbar Search and even on the Troubleshooters page of Windows 10.

Recently, a number of users reported seeing plain white icons on their “.docx” files instead of the Word icon. This kind of issue is mostly caused by a conflict with the default program settings in Windows which is why you may not see any Microsoft Word icon on your .docx files. So if you suddenly find that the Microsoft Word icon is either blank or missing and does not show properly on .doc and .docx document files of Office on your Windows 10 computer, then you can check out the potential solutions outlined below.
Before you proceed, you can try to restart your computer as there are instances when a simple system restart can resolve some issues like this one. However, if it does not help, create a System Restore point first. This is to ensure that you can always undo the changes you are about to make in case something goes wrong. Once you have that covered, proceed to the following options.
Option 1 – Try to configure .docx files to open with “winword.exe”
You can try configuring the .docx files to open with the winword.exe in order to fix the problem.
Right-click on a .docx file and select the “Open with…” option.
After that, if a prompt appears with a message saying, “How do you want to open this file”, select the “More apps” option to proceed.
Next, scroll down and check the checkbox that says, “Always use this app to open .docx files” option.
Then click on the “Look for another app on this PC” link and choose the WINWORD.exe application from one of the following paths based on the installed Office version in your computer and click Open:
Word 2016 (64-bit): C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/root/Office16
Word 2016 (32-bit): C:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Office/root/Office16
Now check if you can now see the Word icon on the .doc or .docx files.
Option 2 – Try changing the default Word icon via Registry Editor
Tap the Win + R keys to open the Run utility.
Then type “Regedit” in the field and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Next, navigate to this path located in the left pane: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWord.Document.12DefaultIcon
From there, double click on the default value at the right pane and based on the Word version you are using as well as the architecture (32 bit or 64 bit) and then copy-paste the corresponding value in the Value data box:
For Word 2016 (64-bit) keep it as C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/root/Office16/wordicon.exe,13
For Word 2016 (32-bit) Keep it as C:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Office/root/Office16/wordicon.exe,13
Once you’re done, tap Enter and then close the Registry Editor.
Restart your computer and see if the problem’s fixed.
Option 3 – Try to rebuild the Icon cache
You may want to rebuild the Icon cache as it could also help fix the issue.
Tap Win + E to open File Explorer and then click Folder Options and click Views to show Hidden System Files.
After that, go to C:Users%username%AppDataLocal folder and look for a file named Iconcache.db and delete it.
Next, go to C:Users%username%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsExplorer.
From there, look for the following files and delete them.
iconcache_32.db
iconcache_48.db
iconcache_96.db
iconcache_256.db
iconcache_1024.db
iconcache_1280.db
iconcache_1600.db
iconcache_1920.db
iconcache_2560.db
iconcache_exif.db
iconcache_idx.db
iconcache_sr.db
iconcache_wide.dd
iconcache_wide_alternate.db
Restart your computer. This will purge and rebuild the icon cache.
Option 4 – Try fixing Office apps
Fixing the Office apps can help you resolve the Word icon issue. All you have to do is open Settings > Apps. From the app list, look for the Microsoft Office Desktop apps and select it and then click on the Advanced options and click Fix. After that, wait until the process is completed and restart your PC. However, if the problem still persists, repeat the steps again but this time, click on Reset instead of Fix.
Option 5 – Try to repair Office Installation
If the options given above didn’t work, you can try to repair the Office installation and see if it can fix the problem.
Open Control Panel and click on Programs and Features.
Next, right-click on the Office program that you want to repair which in this case is, Word.
Select Change and click Repair > Continue. After that, Office will start to repair Microsoft Word.
Wait until the process is done and then reboot your computer.
If you’ve tried resetting your Windows 10 computer using the Reset This PC option in order to restore your computer’s factory settings and the process suddenly fails for some reason and you got an error message instead stating, “There was a problem resetting your PC, No changes were made on your Windows 10 computer”, then this post might help you resolve the problem.
Carefully follow each one of the options given below to resolve the “There was a problem resetting your PC error on Windows 10.
Option 1 – Try renaming the System and Software hive
If you’re still able to boot to the desktop of your Windows 10 PC, open an elevated Command Prompt from the WinX menu.
Now use the CD command and change the directory to Windows\System32\config folder. Simply type in the following command and hit Enter:
cd %windir%system32config
After that, you have to rename the System and Software registry hives to “System.001” and “Software.001”, respectively. To do that, just type each one of the following commands and hit Enter after you type each of them.
ren system system.001
ren software software.001
On the other hand, if your Windows 10 PC isn’t able to boot to the desktop, you can just access Command Prompt from the Advanced Startup options or you can also boot into Sage Mode and open Command Prompt from there and then run the given commands above.
Note: If you only want to use the Refresh your PC option, you must only rename System hive and not Software hive. On the other hand, if the Software hive is really corrupted, you might not be able to use the Refresh your PC option in such a case. Thus, you really need to rename the Software hive as well. Once you’ve renamed the Software hive, you won’t be able to use the Refresh your PC option but only the Reset your PC option.
Type “exit” to close the Command Prompt and then restart your PC and try resetting your PC again.
Option 2 – Try to disable and re-enable the Windows Recovery Environment
If the first option didn’t help, you can try disabling the Windows Recovery Environment and then enable it back again. To configure a Windows Recovery Environment or Windows RE boot image and recovery options, you have to use the REAgentC.exe tool.
Tap the Win + S key and type “REAgentC.exe” to open the REAgentC.exe tool.
After that, type the following command and hit Enter to disable the Windows RE:
reagentc /disable
After disabling the Windows RE, you need to enable it back by typing the following command:
reagentc /enable
Option 3 – Try to boot the USB recovery drive
If the two previous options failed, you need to try another workaround which is to boot to the USB recovery drive > Troubleshoot > Recover from a drive. From there, follow the on-screen instructions and you should be good to go.

The appearance of an error message that references the number 0x80244019
While an error during the Update process can be frustrating to encounter, there are a few simple solutions that can be employed to try to address the problem at hand. At least one of the methods for resolution does require some familiarity with the command prompt and other advanced tools, so if you are not completely confident in your ability to follow the steps mentioned below, you may want to get in touch with a qualified repair technician who can assist you in resolving the error code.
Solution
Error Causes
In some cases, the error in the Update process can be caused by a conflict between the operating system and the antivirus software running on your computer. In other cases, there may be a portion of the file missing or corrupted that needs to be fixed before the Update process can be run through to completion.
Further Information and Manual Repair
For users who are experiencing the appearance of Error Code 0x80244019 on their devices, there are a few methods that can be used to attempt to resolve the issue. While at least one of these methods is fairly simple to complete, even for basic users, the other does require some comfort in using the command prompt to input a series of commands. If you do not feel comfortable in following the steps listed below, contact a computer repair professional who is familiar with Windows 10 to assist you.
Here are the top methods for dealing with Error Code 0x80244019 on a Windows machine:
Method One: Use the Windows Update Troubleshooting Tool to Resolve the Issue
When an error arises during the Windows Update process on Windows 10, the best solution is often to use the built-in tool provided by Microsoft, the Windows Update Troubleshooter. An option to open this tool often appears when the error message itself appears.
By running this tool, your system will attempt to scan the files involved in the Update process to try to determine where the conflict or error may be occurring. If one of the system files needs to be repaired or downloaded again, this tool can often resolve the issue on its own.
If the Troubleshooter tool successfully fixes the error, be sure to restart your computer before attempting to run the Update process again so that you can fully apply any changes that have been made.
In some cases, however, the Troubleshooter tool will not be able to find the problem or will be able to identify what the issue is, but not able to fix it. If this happens, it may be time to turn to Method Two.
Method Two: Manually Perform a Reset on Windows Update Assets
To manually reset the assets associated with the Windows Update tool, follow these steps:
Step One: Open up the command prompt from the start menu and select the option to run it as an administrator.
Step Two: Run the following commands, hitting the enter key after each is put in:
Step Three: Type in the word “exit” to quit out from the Command Prompt.

Method Three: Use An Automated Tool
If you wish to always have at your disposal a utility tool to fix these Windows 10 and other related issues when they do arise, download and install a powerful automated tool.
A surprisingly large amount of things present at your home can and do interfere with your wi-fi signal making it weak so devices are dropping it, having trouble connecting, or being slow.
Hello and welcome to our latest article where we will take a look at all things that are present in a lot of homes but are very bad for your WI-Fi signal.
Bad router placement
Having a router in a bad position can have some really large effects on WI-Fi signal strength and its availability. Usually, we do not give great attention to where we are placing our router but it has been proved over and over again that being close to certain objects does indeed have a great influence on the wireless signal strength and performance.
So, what are these objects and bad positions where we could place the router and effectively kill his Wi-Fi capabilities?
Fish Tanks
Water will block all radio waves including Wi-FI signals and waves themselves, so having a router next to the aquarium or any large source of water is a bad idea. You should always look at water as something bad for your Wi-Fi and move your router away from it as far as possible.
Bookshelves
Paper is another story and example of the dampening effect on radio waves. Did you know that various patterns of paper are used in silent rooms and recording studios in order to eliminate sound reflection from surfaces? Well besides absorbing sound waves, the paper also absorbs Wi-Fi signals and if you have a large bookshelf with a lot of books packed one beside another you just have a great wall of signal absorbing.
Mirrors
The problem with mirrors is in their coating that goes over the glass in order to turn it into the mirror, that coating is metal and as such, it is absorbing signals in large amounts. If you have an old or high-quality mirror that has a silver coating things are even worse since silver will absorb even more waves than modern cheap ones.
TV
Yup, TV is also on this list and for a similar reason as a mirror, although TV does not have coatings of metal, they have something even worse: a large metal plating on the back. Metal plating is there to produce structural integrity of the TV set and provide it with shielding from electromagnetic waves and as such it will prevent Wi-Fi waves as well. Do not place the router behind your TV.
Things that influence signals in homes
Any kind of metal decoration
Now when we covered mirrors and TV because of the metal they have, we must take a look at the metal itself. Any kind of metal stuff that you might have like baskets, figures, statues, frames, etc will effectively block your signal.
Kitchen appliances and Home utilities
Kitchen appliances like refrigerators, microwaves, ovens, stoves, etc. along with home appliances and utilities like dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, etc are large metal objects enclosed in a metal cage that will block signals from spreading further and it is no secret that most kitchens have weaker Wi-Fi because of this reason.
Home gyms
This is a logical conclusion as to everything explained so far if you have a workout room or small gym at home it is probably filled with weights that are metal and have mirrors inside, all of that will interfere and block signals.
Things blocking your Wi-Fi that you have no easy control over
Walls
Thick walls will dampen signals, thick walls from bricks will dampen even more and concrete walls will kill it almost completely. Any kind of metal reinforcement wiring inside walls will reduce and kill signals as well.
Floors and ceiling
This is somewhat important if you have a floor beneath or under the room where is your router located, but for the same reason how walls are blocking your signal floor and ceiling can do it as well, especially since most of the time they are made of some stronger material like concrete with metal fence inside.
Heating systems
If you have a heating system that is composed of metal radiators with water inside, then in terms of Wi-Fi signal strength you have an aquarium but in a metal box, and as such it will greatly reduce signal strength.
