There are not many applications for creating mind maps, even fewer that are completely free, so it is with great pleasure to present you with Freeplane. Freeplane is mind mapping, Knowledge Management, and Project Management software completely free and open source.
Freeplane is a free and open-source software application that supports thinking, sharing information, and getting things done at work, in school, and at home. The core of the software is tools for mind mapping (also known as concept mapping or information mapping) and using mapped information. Freeplane is written in Java using OSGi and Java Swing. It runs on any operating system that has a current version of Java installed. It can be run locally or portably from removable storage like a USB drive.
We use Github only as of the main code repository, all other project parts are hosted at the source forge. So all bugs and feature requests are managed in a separate issue tracker. There is a drop-down box for selecting different types of issues. Other sources of inspiration are our new forum and old forum. Some users write their ideas there. Every contributor and every team member freely decides what task he is going to work on, but for making the best decision we can communicate our self-set goals in the above forum. It is supposed to enable early discussions and community feedback and also to motivate you and other people.
How to start hacking and contributing
People new to the project can start with implementing a new small feature or doing some refactoring or documentation and not with the bug fixing. Not all bug reports seem to be equally important, and if there are important bugs they usually get fixed by people who broke the functionality. I think you should first get there :).
For internal developer discussions, there is a private mailing list. It is held private to avoid spam mails. If you want to be subscribed let us know what mail address you are going to use with it. This list is the preferred way to ask all code-related questions because they usually get answered soon and by the most competent team member.
Some documentation for new developers is available in Freeplane wiki https://www.freeplane.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_build_Freeplane and also here and here. It is written for new guys and should also be maintained by the new guys to stay up to date.
Looking forward to any questions and contributions,
To understand what Files.exe Error code is, it is first important for you to know what EXE stands for, and EXE files function.
EXE is the abbreviation for Executable. It is a file extension for an executable file format. This file contains a program that is a particular file type capable of being executed or run as a program. The Windows Operating System contains literally thousands of executable files.
Every program that you have installed on your PC runs because the .exe application files execute the tasks. Files.exe are also used by websites that are not entirely static to display properly.
There are thousands and thousands of exe files on your PC that are supported by millions of Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files.
It is advisable to run executable files from publishers you trust because these files can potentially change your computer settings and harm your PC.
The files Exe error code occurs when you are unable to open and run executable files. The error message is often displayed in either of the following formats:
‘Access Deny’, ‘Runtime error ‘
Windows cannot find FileName.exe
Windows cannot find FileName.exe. This program is needed for opening files of type "ProgramName".
Windows cannot find ProgramName. Make sure you typed the name correctly
Solution
Error Causes
The files Exe error code can be triggered due to multiple causes:
Corrupt registry
Viral infection- This changes the default configuration for running exe files
Missing files
Invalid registry entries
If this error occurs on your PC, it is advisable to fix it immediately to ensure your desired programs run smoothly. Also, if not fixed timely it can lead to serious PC damages like system failure, registry corruption and also put you at risk of privacy errors if the cause of this error is viral infection and spyware.
Further Information and Manual Repair
To resolve the files.exe error on your PC, try the solutions given below:
Clean and Restore the Registry Manually
If the files.exe error occurs on your system due to registry corruption, then to resolve it you need to clean it and restore it back. You can do this manually and automatically.
The manual way is slightly time-consuming and tricky. If you are not a computer programmer and don’t have sound technical expertise, then you may find the manual procedure of cleaning the registry complex. However, we’ll be discussing both methods one by one.
The registry is the main database of the PC. It saves all the files on your system including both important and unnecessary files and obsolete files like bad keys, invalid registry entries, temporary files, cookies, internet history, and junk files.
It is important to delete these files from the registry because they take up a lot of disk space and also damage and corrupt the registry. And when this happens, you start experiencing file.exe errors.
To clean and repair the registry manually, here’s what you should do:-
First, go to the start menu and then click run.
Now type ‘command.com’ and press enter.
After this, type the following commands: “cd” press enter then “cd windows” press enter.
Type copy ‘regedit.exe regedit.com” and press enter again.
After that type ‘start regedit.com” and press enter. Now navigate to and select the key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTexefileshellopencommand.
Once you select the key, in the right pane double click the default value.
Delete the current value data and simply insert “%1”%*.
Close the Regedit (registry editor) utility. Now try running your desired program; it is most likely to resolve the error if it occurred due to registry corruption.
Clean & Restore Registry Automatically with Restoro
To clean and restore the registry automatically in seconds, run a deep Registry system scan using Restoro.
This is a powerful registry cleaner deployed with intuitive algorithms that scan for all types of registry issues on the system. It wipes out all the unnecessary files in seconds, clearing up the cluttered disk, and also simultaneously repairs and restores the registry. In just a few simple clicks the error is resolved.
Run an Antivirus
If the files.exe error code is triggered by viral infection and spyware, then to resolve it install and run an antivirus. However, once you install an antivirus, your PC speed may slow down dramatically. This is often compromise users have to make to keep viral infection and malware away from their systems.
But you don’t have to make this compromise if you download Restoro.
This tool is more than just a powerful registry cleaner. It is embedded with multiple utilities that help remove practically all types of PC-related issues. These utilities include antivirus and a system optimizer. The antivirus utility scans and removes all malicious software on your system and while the system optimizer module boosts your system’s speed.
Total System Care is safe, multi-functional, and efficient software. It is compatible with all Windows versions.

Hello and welcome to our Outlook 2013 Preview. Everyone has heard of sneak peeks when it comes to new movies and games that are coming out soon. That is what advertisements and test reels are for to get the audience interested and excited before the piece of media even comes out.
It serves to entertain the target audience in the months, maybe even years, up until the release date of this thing they want to play or see and it keeps it in the public mind.
It is also great for the viewers because it is a hint to what they will expect when it comes out and it keeps them wanting more excitedly. However, did you know that sometimes computer software releases previews and sneak peeks too?
Outlook 2013
Well, they do and Microsoft has released some sneak peeks and previews of their new Outlook, Outlook 2013!
This is probably to get consumers ready for when it comes out next year; people are going to be getting excited about this new makeover that Microsoft Office, with Outlook, has given itself, people from Microsoft even saying it is ‘the most ambitious’ version of Office yet!
The new orange color scheme and logo design look promising enough for the consumer without even checking the new features and special things that have been revealed about it yet!
Outlook 2013 Features
The best part of this new Outlook is that you can move widgets around in it.
If you don’t like the fact that your inbox is placed over your outbox, you can move it- simple as that! It will be really handy for people who like messing around with layouts and will also be handy for people who tend to overlook things at the bottom of the pile like spam and trash if they can move them to a more noticeable location for themselves.
Another great thing is that the new Microsoft Office that Outlook comes with has a cool new stylus option, allowing you to personalize things with your own handwriting or even drawings.
This can then be used as your email signature on Outlook which can give a really nice and personal feel to the emails you are sending.
Another new thing is their labeling of drafts. Like Gmail, Google’s own email service, a red-lettered ‘draft’ will now appear over composing messages you have not yet sent.
Handy Email Tools in Outlook 2013
This is handy because you know where your message has been saved as opposed to how it could be saved in your outbox or be sent to the trash.
Also, there are new links with Facebook that allow you to see what your friends are doing through Outlook. You can also converse with Facebook friends through Outlook now, which is a big step forward in this age of social media.
You can get an email from a person and, at a click of a button, also read all their Facebook posts. However, there is not an option for Twitter or Tumblr or even Myspace, which is a shame I suppose, but maybe in the next update.
So, I think Outlook 2013 will be worth looking at, don’t you?
Privacy is a hot topic lately in all circles so naturally themes like private or incognito browsing pop up immediately as discussion topics. Naturally, when discussing private or incognito browsing it is very important to understand what exactly private or incognito browsing is, what does it do and how it works in order to shed some light on is it really private and safe as we are told.
So, when you browse the internet normally websites have tendencies to save your browsing data, save cookies, remember passwords, etc in order to provide you with a better surfing experience next time you visit that same site. Private or incognito browsing treats you as a completely new user which is the first time visiting a given website. It clears all your data, including your browsing history, cookies, etc., on exiting. Every website you visit in private or incognito mode treats you as a new visitor, even if you have visited it before in incognito mode.
And basically, that's it. So is it really private? No, it is just a non-remembering mode of internet browsing where after your browsing session history and other data is cleared from the browser, but while you are on the internet you are pretty visible to all like any other normal user.
There are a lot of misconceptions and wrong thinking about browsing the internet in this mode so let's take a look at some typical ones.
The government and other companies can not track me
Many people think that the Government cannot trace their identity when they surf privately. This is only a myth. There are many ways by which the Government can reach you if you do something illegal. When you surf online, you are connected with an ISP of your area, which helps the officials track your location.
Virus and other malware can not infect me while in private or incognito mode
Many people think that private mode protects them from virus and malware attacks. It is not true because malware and viruses can enter your PC through a software download, phishing email, etc. To protect your PC from virus and malware attacks, you should have good security software.
My IP address is hidden when I am in incognito or private browsing mode
This is not 100% true. If you search “What is my IP” in incognito and standard mode, you will get the same results. This means that websites can view your IP address in private mode also. Using a VPN would be a good option if you want to hide your IP.
I can not be tracked via ads
Since cookies are deleted after exiting private browsing, many people think that ads cannot track them. When you surf in incognito mode, the browser saves cookies in a temporary mode, allowing ads to track you during your entire private browsing session.
I am not visible when I am in incognito or private
You may think if you sign in to your Gmail or other social media accounts in private mode, no one will see you online. This is not true. It does not matter whether you have signed into your account in normal mode or incognito mode; others can always spot you online.
In your regular browsing mode, you may have some addons, extensions, themes, etc installed and you can use them. They may track your activities. The data is deleted when you exit the browser.
When you use the private browsing mode, the browser is loaded in its original form, typically without the installed addons, extension, themes, etc. The data gets deleted when you exit the browser. This mode doesn’t save data to disk but keeps it in memory during the current session.
If you are really concerned about your privacy we have articles about using DuckDuckGo and deep web where you can be sure that your browsing sessions are encrypted.
Started as an internal network and has slowly expanded since 1960 internet has taken over the world. In the beginning, it was a means of information change but in the modern age you can run applications and virtual machines over the internet, you can stream video and audio, and you can communicate in real-time with someone on the other side of Earth.
With the internet growing so fast in such a small amount of time it is only logical and wise to take a step back and take a good look at what it offers now, what are great things about it and what are some of the worst.
Good sides of the internet
Information
There are a lot of advantages of the internet, first and foremost is information. Internet was made as an information exchange service and even today you can find a lot of various information about various topics that interest you. A site like Wikipedia is a completely free online encyclopedia and a lot of news companies have their own internet sites where you can find free information and news.
On the other hand, there are also websites like udemy, edx, Coursera, and many others that will offer you the education, some for free, some for money but you can get a glimpse and part of university quality education for just a fraction of price.
Online shopping
Sites like Amazon have used the internet and launched themselves as today's multi-billion companies. In today's world, there is not a single thing you can not buy online. Many sites today are going from the large online marketplace where you can find everything to small niche specialized ones. Also every major brand in the world today has its own online store.
Other shops will offer you music, movies, games, etc. Services like steam, xbox pass, sony pass etc, will let you buy games online, other music, movies, and many more.
Streaming services
Days, when you had to buy movies in order to watch them at home, are gone, thanks to the internet we have plenty of streaming services for movies and tv shows as well as ones for music. If you do not want to spend money on actually purchasing things then a good idea is to have a streaming plan set up when you want it.
Email and messaging
Communication is a great thing and since the dawn of mankind people have been talking and sharing with each other, the internet has made it possible to send mail electronically and instantly and modern chat communication is everywhere. We can not just talk with our friends and family that can be on the other side of the world, we can also talk in real-time with the sales representative, with technical service, or attend online classes with a group of people.
Cloud storage services
Saving your pictures in this digital media age on the hard drive can be risky but thanks to modern technologies you can save most of your precious files on cloud servers for safekeeping. From pictures to documents and even other files that you need and want to save. There are some of them that will offer you a free amount and some basic free plans as well.
Bad sides of the internet
Malware, viruses, and phishing
We could not talk about the bad side of the internet if we do not mention its greatest threat. Bad sites, infected software, phishing emails, and many more malicious threats. Problem is that these kinds of tricks and attacks have become more and more sophisticated and harder to detect and avoid.
Pornography
Pornography is bad, having it freely available to children is even worse. Sadly the only way to regulate this is on a computer-by-computer basis by turning on parent control on each one. There are many studies that go into detail about why this is bad, sadly currently there are no effective ways to isolate this content.
No privacy
When we say there is no privacy we do not mean by using social media and not setting your privacy settings altho that also fits in this point, what we are talking about is data mining of your habits and things you do. It is well known that today lot of websites are using some form of AI recommender system in order to tailor your internet experience to suit your needs better. Most of these AI systems are trained by mining your data and analyzing your habits.
If you have 2 google accounts there is a high probability chance that for the same query you will get different results, depending on your so far browsing habits. The same goes for other services as well.
Dark webshops
There are some great things in dark and deep WEB-like sites with true news and information. Even some legit libraries where you can find and download rare books. Sadly as goes with the internet dark and deep WEB also has its well, dark sides, from disturbing content to shops that sell stolen items to straight stealing your money by parading as legit shops but only to steal your money.
Dating sites
We all try to find someone that is perfectly matched with us but using the online dating site has many proven bad effects on psychology. It also devaluates interaction between people and can lower self-esteem.
Bad habits
Since the internet has become wildly available and popular on various devices like tablets and mobile phones more and more people are spending an unhealthy amount of time on it. Harvesting the benefits of the internet is great but find some time for other people as well.
If you encountered an error message saying, “We couldn’t find any drives, To get a storage driver, click Load driver” when you try to install Windows in a VirtualBox machine, then you’ve come to the right place as this post will guide you in fixing this error.
This error message is displayed on the screen where you have to choose a partition to install the guest operating system. This error is most likely due to the lack of correct settings as well as a corrupted virtual disk. To fix this error, you have to remove existing storage devices, create a new storage device and select the correct ISO file.
For complete instructions, follow the given steps below.
Step_1: The first thing you have to do is remove all the existing Storage devices and since this option is already available in VirtualBox by default, there is no need for you to install any third-party software.
Step_2: After that, open VirtualBox and select the virtual machine and then click the Settings button.
Step_3: Next, switch to the Storage section and on your right-hand side, you will see “Controller: SATA” and two other sub-labels. From there, select Controller: SATA and then click on the red cross button that says, “Remove selected storage controller”.
Step_4: Now click on the Add new storage controller icon and select the “Add SATA Controller” option from the given list.
Step_5: Afterwards, click the “Add hard disk” button and select the “Create new disk” option, and then you have to create a new virtual disk for your virtual machine.
Step_6: Verify if you have selected Dynamically allocated while you create the virtual hard disk. Once the process is completed, you will get a “.vdi” file in the list.
Step_7: Next, click on the “Add optical drive” button and select the “Choose disk” option. Here, you have to select the ISO file and if you can find an ISO file in the given list, select it from there, else, you have to click the Add button and navigate to the folder where the ISO file is located.
Step_8: Once you’re done, click the OK button and boot your virtual machine. You should see options instead of the “We couldn’t find any drives, To get a storage driver, click Load driver” error message. If you see the options, you can now create a new partition and start the installation process of the Windows operating system in the VirtualBox machine without any problem.
Steam is a game store behemoth that offers more titles than any other game store online, take that along with the fact that steam was one of the first online dedicated stores for games and you can guess that many people have a steam account, buy and play games on it. It is a platform where you can meet new people in games and add them as friends on steam so you can spend some time together. But happens if you want to have friends on Steam but you would like to hide your game activity? Coming in October for insiders and in November for all in the update, Microsoft has prepared a series of updates which they call an "additional set of experiences"
These updates are looked upon by Panos Panay, a vice executive president at Microsoft & chief product officer for Windows and devices as sort of makeup tests. They will consist of new additions with the biggest one being a tabbed version of File Explorer.
File Explorer received a UI makeover in the last update but the tabbed interface was missing which was expected by many users so it will come in following the next update.
The rest of the features that we will receive are an updated Photos application, Suggested Actions in the Windows Shell, Overflow menu for the taskbar, and improved Nearby Share.
The tabbed File Explorer interface is essentially File Explorer’s version of Sets, the tabbed window interface that Microsoft tested out several years ago. In testing, the tabbed interface proved handy for moving and copying files, and we’d expect the same once the feature formally goes live. The difference between Sets and the tabbed File Explorer interface is Sets allowed for multiple applications to be clustered together via tabs.
Photos app will include a “new photos-managing experience that brings a gorgeous gallery, simplifying browsing, finding, management and consumption of your collection of photos.” It will allow “easy backup to OneDrive” and a “delightful Memories experience.”
As for other features, nothing specifically was said except giving just some tips on what will they bring, it is obvious that File Explorer and the photos app were the main focus for MS in this upcoming update.
If you are currently facing the “A required device isn’t connected or cannot be accessed” error with codes 0xc0000185, 0xc0000225, 0xc0000001, 0xc00000f, and 0xc000000e on your Windows 10 computer, worry not for this post will help you resolve this problem. All these error codes point out the same thing – your computer needs to be repaired. Some of these error codes are related to the “winload.efi” file which means that you are using the UEFI system. This file also loads up important drivers in order to start the Windows Kernel. And if you got a remark from any of these error codes indicating that there is a hardware failure or that the driver configuration is incorrect, then you must physically check if the wires are connected properly.
This kind of error occurs mostly when your computer wasn’t able to locate the system files that are needed to boot up your computer. Thus, the only way to fix this problem is to correct the boot record. It is recommended that you utilize the “/RebuildBCD” option in order to rebuild the BCD files. To do so, follow these steps:
You can start by booting into the installation environment for Windows 10 from an installation media.
After that, click on Repair your computer and on the blue screen, select Troubleshoot and then select the Advanced options menu.
From there, select Command Prompt and once you open it, enter each one of the commands given below by sequence.
bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /ScanOS
bootrec /RebuildBcd
Once you’re done executing the commands given above, type “exit” to close the Command Prompt window and then restart your computer and see if it fixed error code 0xc000014c.
On the other hand, if rebuilding the BCD using the /RebuildBCD option didn’t help, you can try a crude way to rebuild the boot record from scratch. You can do that by following the given steps below which will export and delete/backup the BCD available in the system.
Go to the Advanced Recovery Mode.
From there, go to Command Prompt and execute the commands given below and make sure to enter them one after the other.
bcdedit /export C:BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h –r
ren c:bootbcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
If it still didn’t help, then troubleshoot the problem further with the help of the following instructions.
Option 1 – Disable the Secure Boot in the BIOS
Disabling the Secure Boot in the BIOS settings is definitely recommended to resolve the error. To disable Secure Boot, here’s what you have to do:
First, boot your computer into Windows 10.
Next, go to Settings > Windows Update. From there, check if there is anything that you have to download and install if you see any available updates. Usually, OEMs send and update the list of trusted hardware, drivers, and operating systems for your computer.
After that, go to the BIOS of your computer.
Then go to Settings > Update & Security > Advanced Startup options. If you click on Restart Now, it will restart your computer and give you all the advanced options.
Next, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options. As you can see, this screen offers you further options including System restore, Startup repair, Go back to the previous version, Command Prompt, System Image Recovery, and UEFI Firmware Settings.
Select the UEFI Firmware Settings which will take you to the BIOS.
From there, go to the Security > Boot > Authentication tab where you should see Secure Boot. Note that every OEM has its own way of implementing the options so it varies.
Next, set Secure Boot to Disabled and set Legacy Support to On or Enabled.
Save the changes made and exit. Afterward, your computer will reboot.
Option 2 – Run System File Checker
You could also run a System File Checker or SFC scan. All you have to do is select Command Prompt from the Advanced Options. Once you’ve opened Command Prompt, type the “sfc /scannow” command and tap Enter to execute it.
Option 3 – Disable the Early Launch Anti-Malware Protection
You need to restart your computer in the Start Menu first while holding down the Shift key on your keyboard.
After that, it will restart your computer to Startup Settings.
Now ensure that the 8th option is labeled as “Disable early launch anti-malware protection.
Then tap the F8 key since the aforementioned option above is listed at number 8. This should launch and load Windows on your PC with the Early Anti-malware protection disabled for that session only when you try to carry out the same task and then check if the error related to the Winload.efi file is now fixed.
Option 4 – Try to run Automatic Startup Repair
In this option, you need to boot your computer into the Advanced Startup Options and from there, run the Automatic Startup Repair and then wait until the process is completed.
Option 5 – Try to reset the BIOS or the UEFI Settings
If updating the BIOS didn’t help in fixing the error, you can try to reset the BIOS instead.
Start your computer and tap the F10 key during the booting process to enter the BIOS. If it does not work, you can try tapping the F1 or F2 key as well as the Del key.
Once you’re already in the BIOS, tap the F9 key to get the prompt to RestoreLoad default configuration now for the BIOS.
Next, click on Yes and then follow the next on-screen instructions that appear to set the BIOS back to its default settings.
Once you’re done restoring the default settings of the BIOS, restart your computer and then check if it now boots properly.
Option 6 – Try to physically check the hardware
You should also check the physical status of the hardware in your computer. You can clean the dust off the hardware components like the Network Card of the computer. You might want to use a small blower or you could also use a soft cloth and run the components gently. Make sure that you don’t damage any parts with moisture or cause harm to any circuits while you carry out this task.
What is Mastodon? Mastodon is an open-source microblogging network very similar to Twitter. You can make 500 characters post messages called toot (tweet), share videos or images, and follow other people. But unlike Twitter, Mastodon is decentralized, meaning the entire Mastodon is not run by a single company pulling all strings.
Mastodon can be used directly in your web browser or through a mobile client on a smartphone or tablet. It includes features that seem copied from Twitter-like replies, boosts (retweets), favorites (loves), a timeline view, blocking, and voluntary content warnings that hide sensitive content.
Mastodon also has some great features that Twitter does not have like automated post deletion for the older post of a certain age, requiring approval for follows without restricting your account, and opting out of search engine indexing.
Currently, there are also no ads on Mastodon meaning no ad tracking or ad network surveillance.
How Does Mastodon Work?
Mastodon is a social media network made of nodes called servers or instances each running special software meaning anyone can run their own Mastodon instance (if they have a proper dedicated server). When you have your own instance it can be linked in the federation or remain private, so individuals or companies can have control over individual Mastodon servers.
The software itself is open source based on the social networking protocol ActivityPub which was developed by WWW Consortium.
While using Mastodon, people sign up for accounts with specific instances. Once logged in, you can view a local timeline (of posts from that instance only) or, if the instance is federated with others, see a federated timeline comprised of toots from people in other instances. Mastodon users can send messages to each other using their Mastodon account names that are similar to email addresses in that they feature the server address as well as the user name.
